At some point early in the game (in Chapter 2) you have to side with either Shadow Thieves or Bodhi (Vampires) is it possible to get Amulet of Power if you side with Bodhi?? Says that it's a reward from Aran but wondered if you could take it from his cold corpse??

According to Dan Simpson's walkthrough you receive the following when you kill Aran Linvail for Bodhi:
Aran Linvail - 17,000 experience
Elven Chainmail +1
Amulet of Power (5% magic res., -1 casting time)
Ring of Protection +2
Short Sword +2
Light Crossbow +2
Also search his chest (x 4500 y 1930) to find more interesting treasures:
Ring of Djinni Summoning
Katana +2

I would recommend getting him the dosh ASAP - with so many vamps around, the amulet is essential in avoiding annoying level drain.
it really hacks me off that one touch can lose a mage/cleric all those memorised spells.

That is why you keep them away from the vampires and have your fighters attacking with Negative Plane Protection cast upon them.

All very well if you know you are about to be sucked off levels, but if you get ambushed - as you do in some public areas - by the time you can cast NPP, it is too late. I was casually wandering around the docks last night and up pops a vamp and drains Keldorn - I fire up the clerics' turn undead then she starts to run off and I start whacking her with my stunning weapon. I forget she hasn't been killed. the party go through a door - she's inside and before I've even notice she's there, she drains somebody else. OK so she's turned to vapor a moment later, but that's 2 drained characters and one fatigued cleric all in a few moments.
vamps also do not sportingly attack the front line - they often appear out of nowhere away from the beefy boys.
NPP also tends to expire mid-fight when you are in a group of vamps and so it can be very useful, but somewhat like a dodgy condom - you never know when the protection will prove illusory.
the enhanced mace of disruption and the amulet are two of the best items in the game IMO.

While I have encountered the vamps at night in the Docks area and have battled them I've never had a problem with them draining me. I have Korgan throwing Azuredge, which usually kills the vamps before they get close enough for melee, and everyone else attacking via ranged weapon.
If you do get drained in the city take advantage of the temples to get restored without draining your cleric.
I haven't ever had the Enhanced MoD or the Amulet of Power but will have to give them a try after your description of them.

If you use a temple the guy that has levels restored is going to be fatigued. It annoys the hell out of me. Aren't it one of the clerics at the temple that's casting the spell?
