Warlock Question

When playing a Warlock (Level 2), is it possible to quickcast the Eldrich Blast spell? The only way I can see of accessing that ability is right-clicking, going to Warlock, and then selecting the spell. Is there a quicker way? Also, in the Quickcast ('F' key) menu, there are two spells called Eldrich Spear and Draining Blast, but I have no way of accessing them. Clicking on them does no good. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

The plain Eldritch Blast ability can be dragged from your character feats list to your quickbar. Every other blast essence or invocation cannot be however.

The Quickcast thing for warlocks works this when dealing with blast and shape invocations when wanting to use them together:

You will see a list of tiny boxes next to the casting symbol of your class at the top of the quickcast menu, directly above your choice of invocations. There should be a weird bluish symbol which kind of looks like a strange frog or flower type thing. Next to that, there should be the symbol for your Eldritch Spear and for your Draining Blast.

Click on one of these, this should switch the choices of invocation/blast essenses and shapes below it. If you click the Eldritch Spear icon, the list should switch to show the Draining Blast Icon, with a little overlay of the Eldritch Spear mixed into the icon. Clicking on this new icon on the lower list will allow you to cast your Eldritch. This is very useful later on should you get the other blast shape and essence abilities to toy around with. Mixing Eldritch Chain and Brimstone blast sets your enemies on fire in groups. :mischief:

Metamagic works the same way. Top list will list your metamagic options, clicking on one of them will switch the bottom list of spells available to what you can cast with that metamagic feat applied.

Thanks for the advice, but it doesn't work. Clicking on the tiny boxes in the Quickcast menu does nothing. I do have the Eldrich Spear and Draining Blast pinkish icons, but clicking on them does nothing. The only way I can access Eldrich Blast is from right-clicking, choosing 'Warlock' and then 'Eldrich Blast'. There's got to be a quicker way...

BTW, I am a Ranger (3) and a Warlock (2), Chaotic Good and Wood Elf. I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Well, either you aren't getting what I said and doing it wrong, or there's something wrong with your game. It works fine for me. Your class shouldn't make a difference. So long as you have the invocations you said, you should be able to do as I said and make it work.

You did know what I was talking about when I mentioned the upper and lower menus that drop down from the Quickcast menu's, didn't you?

Yeah, I totally get it, but it's not there. The only icons that show up normally for my character under level 1 spells are Beuiling Influence and Darkness, and those work, but when I click on Eldrich Spear and Draining Blast, those two spell icons (BI and D) disappear and I have no choices, know what I mean? Again, the only way to access Eldrich Blast is to right click on my character and use the 'Warlock' option. Maybe I'll have more options when I go up a level to a level 3 Warlock. Maybe its a multiclass thing.

I'm not sure if I'm getting your issue, but perhaps this answers your question?

Press 'C', go to feats, select the blast and drag it to the bar. A couple of abilities are only found in the feats list, not your spell book. Like animal shape for the druids. Then again, it should already be in the quick bar from the get-go, so maybe you accidentally removed it?

Thanks, Tricky. I can drag the Eldrich Blast from my character feats into the quickbar on the bottom of the screen. It seems to be the only thing I have access to right now. Like I said, maybe the rest will come with advanced levels. Thanks.

Just another quick question... Why is it that the quickbar (on the bottom of the screen) goes blank every time I transition from place to place on the world map? Is there a way to keep the quickbar functions permanent?

They stay permanent on mine, sounds like a bug. Have you patched your game?

As to the other stuff.... you should only have your Eldritch Blast ability and 2 invocations or blast essences/shapes as a level 2 Warlock. Meaning, you could have your blast and any 2 of the Least Warlock Invocations on the list in the manual. How you are getting 4 instead of 2 is completely beyond me and probably causing your problem. You should be able to have say, Eldritch Spear and Draining Blast, which would be fine. Getting Darkness and Beguiling Influence as well should not be happening. You can only get 3 invocations from each grouping/level of invocations max by the time you reach 20th level Warlock.

Still, I fail to see how this isn't working, as it works perfectly in my game. I would ask again, is your game patched and updated? It could be you are running into a bug that has been fixed with a patch that I have.

I have no clue, but I looked up patched on Atatri's site at Atari Support -Neverwinter Nights 2- and found no patches or updates on the BioWare site either. Can you direct me to the patch? Thanks!

Simply press update on the load screen, and the game will check for patches for you.

Firstly, to drag Warlock Eldritch abilities into Quickbar, you have you use two different steps I believe: from the Character screen for the Blast and from the Spellbook for the rest (spellbook not quickcast) which also gives you the combination effects (e.g. Eldritch Cone with Brimstone Blast).

The problem with Beguiling Influence and Darkness against Eldritch Spear and Draining Blast sounds like you don't actually have those Eldritch Abilities. As has been said, you can only have 3, and so it sounds like the bug in the program is displaying abilities you don't have, and it's correct not to cast them when you click on it! I'd double check your abilities and then just ignore them.
