Only usable by: Undead (spoilers?)

It may not apply, but I've added the spoilers tag just to be sure. I've found a certain weapon at one of the merchants of the 2nd chapter that lists itself as only usable by those of the 'undead' class. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I've obtained all the sidekick NPC's (really, is there a good word for them?) there are to collect. More importantly they all look fairly alive to me. Am I missing something here?

Hmmm...good question, I think it might be usable by the Pale Master Prestige Class, gotta take a look but if I remember correctly you might get undead traits.

Which merchant has the item?

The one in the Keep. I've played 'evil' through the first chapter, and this merchant seems to tie in that plot somehow. His name is Uncus and the items is named 'katana of the mummy lord'

By the way, if it was a Palemaster (what a strange Vasquezesque name) item, shouldn't it just have said 'Only usable by: Palemaster'? I haven't found any reason to assume they are undead in addition to being necromancers.

You haven't found any reason? The Pale Master class basically gives you all of the benefits of being undead, without the negative side effects. The immunities, natural armor bonuses, paralyzing touch. I dunno about the item and the undead status and if there is someway to use it. However, the Pale Master class taken through level 10 basically gives you all of the plus sides of being a skeleton without actually becoming one.

I know all that, it just seems odd that they use that word as a class requirement. I don't think the manual or the ingame class introduction explicitly states that you become undead upon changing to the prestige class, but I'll have to check on that later. I wish there was some easy way to test this, alter a savegame or something.

Hey here's a thought.. maybe it is quest related? There is that part where you meet a small group of necromancers in Blacklake. I wasn't paying much attention to them, which is *probably* why they didn't survive. Maybe you can actually become undead at some point in the game? Creepy.

I think there can be something like 8 different merchants in the keep. I don't remember any of their names. Is this the shady dealer or something? I declined to let him set up shop in my game.

Anyway, I'll agree with Tricky here. If the item is meant for Palemasters, you'd think they would have said that instead of undead. In another thread, somebody claimed that Nasher's equipment is a holdover from NWN. In one of the NWN premium modules you can become undead, so maybe the item in question here is a holdover as well (not that anyone has actually stated what the item is yet; feel free to spoil me).

He's a bit shady I suppose, wants to kill some graycloaks etc, and I did have the option to dismiss him. He's standing in the main hall of the keep and had a few of those keep pseudo-quests for me.

"Use Limitation: Racial Type: Undead"

Hey now. Are my eyes deceiving me? :)

SWCarter, where did you get those descriptions in the item database? The ingame descriptions of the item says "Only usable by: Undead".

Maybe it's a typo in the game?

Edit: I'm a bit incoherent today, excuse me. I assume that the Gamebanshee description implies that it can only be used ON undead, not by. I could be mistaken since the words can still be interpreted differently, but it would seem like a far better explanation.

I don't have anything to do with the equipment database, but I'm guessing what we have listed is supposed to mean the same thing as what the game has listed.

Just a thought....they might have added the equipment beforehand...I am pretty sure we are going to see a few addon's in the future ( as with NWN I ), maybe we are going to see characters that are Vampires, Liches and so on...

They would've had to have placed these items on purpose then. Are NWN1 modules accessible from within the main campaign?

First: "of the mummy lord" sounds to like it was used by a mummy, now why would he want a sword that only works on undead??? I think it is more likely (or rather less unlikely) that it's only usable BY undead.

Seconly: Cant anyone just try to use it with a Palemaster in a homemade testmodule? I'm at work for quite a few hours yet and unfortunately i'm not allowed to play NWN2 here :(

I had my first crack at the toolset to find out about more about this undead player class, but I couldn't figure out how to get anything done (even with the toolset manual). I find its GUI reprehensible, someone other than me will have to try Leodriz' idea. =\

Just do giveitem, if you don't have the cash to buy it and pass it to all the sidekicks to see if they can equip it, then take it on a mission and try to use it on a living being.

Looks like a typo/misprint to me, though I am not that far yet.

Well, I can cheat my way into a palemaster, no problem. The problem is the item ID code you need to summon the weapon. Through Google I've found only one list on the Bioware forum that lists a great deal of item/weapon ID's, but this one was not on it. I quadruplechecked it.

What about the item code in the link you yourself provided to the GB item database earlier? Does that code not work?

Hm, I kind of figured that one was copied from NWN1. Checking it out now.
