For the last few weeks I have noticed something odd when I use Opera (V 8.53) here at GB. The site displays correctly. However, I can't click on links; when I move my curser over a link, absolutely nothing happens.

I have tested Opera at other sites and forums, and I don't have any problems; I have been also successfully using my other browsers at GB, and again, no problems.
So, I've concluded the issue is specifically related to Opera (my version at least) and GB...

Has anyone else experienced difficulties?

I have never had this problem with Opera, but I'm currently experiencing it with IE... I think my version of opera was the same as you, but can't check it right now since my own comp doesn't work...

But I think it's not that directly linked to Opera, since I'm having the same problem with the IE version I'm currently using with other computer (the one which I'm using right now...)

I have had similar problems with FF. I ended up un-installing the browser, then reinstalling the newest version. It fixed my problems. It might be the way to go about fixing this with Opera.

Didn't have these problems in Opera 8.5 and neither when I upgraded (just now) to 9.(something).

Hmmm... I tried reinstalling Opera 8.5, but I'm still having the same problem. FF, IE and Kmeleon work fine, but not Opera for some odd reason.
I'd consider downloading Opera 9, but I've heard it is still quite buggy, and slower than 8.5.

Hmm, it could be that your version of Opera isn't compatible with one of our ads or something. Try opening and closing the browser once or twice and then manually typing in different URLs to areas of GameBanshee. If the 24-hour ad cookie gets saved to your computer, that might get you past the problem. I realize this isn't a very convenient option, but it might at least pinpoint where the problem is. This is the first I've ever heard of such an issue.

Okay, I'll give that a shot. It occurs to me that it could be a cookie issue because I have Opera set to dump all cookies on exit. I'll fiddle with it a bit and then see what happens.
Opera is my primary browser, and I visit GB at least once a day, so hopefully I can get it working. If I can't, at least Kmeleon is a nice, speedy little browser.

Have you tried right-clicking a link and then clicking "Open"?

I'm wondering if that may possibly prevent any installation aggrivation.

Okay, I've tried experimenting with my cookies and that does not seem to help. I also tried right clicking on links to open them, but no dice there either.

It is almost definitely an ad though, because the only way I can eliminate the problem is by putting up the ad blockers in my firewall. Clearly, I don't like blocking ads in GB... so I don't really see this as a solution either. I may just primarily use Kmeleon for browsing GB, and only come here with Opera if I am already using Opera for other things.

Is there any way for you to determine which ad it is that's causing the problem? I'd like to forward the problem on to our ad provider, but can't really do so without a description, URL, or some other identifying feature.

I'm not very good at that sort of tech stuff, but I'll certainly see what I can do. It does seem intermittent, which would suggest it is related to whatever ad is displaying on the page I happen to be on...so that might make it possible to narrow things down at least.

I'm also wondering if it might be active X related because I checked my firewall log and I seem to be repeatedly blocking/removing an "object" that is being tagged as active X. (I have all of my security settings adjusted so they don't allow active x)

I just experienced another Opera incident, so thought I should note the details here.
The only ad that seemed to be displaying was something that read:

'Tis the season to Connect,
Mobile sidekick 3'

I have no idea if this is the one causing the problem, but hopefully this helps.
