Advice Wanted

Has anyone played through the game successfully with the exp cap remover installed? Did it cause any problems? I've had this problem for a while, and some members may remember it: On my computer, the game started taking forever to save, load, and clear data from current saved games after my characters exceeded the cap. Curiously, the saved games from before I exceeded the cap work fine. The games inbetween save slow, but not intolerably slow. I played from one of these inbetween saved games, and it eventually got worse.
I'm not so bent on the "hacked" higher levels now (I intend to play again anyway, and exceed the cap then), but I've done a lot since I exceeded the cap. I've almost beaten the game.
So here's the dilemma...should I wait for further help from Interplay and TeamBG (who I've contacted for help), or should I try going back to a saved game before I exceeded the cap after unistalling the cap remover? If I do the latter, I want to be totally sure that I won't play for 10 hours and run into the same problem, or I'm going to be REALLY angry
Any advice would be appreciated, and possible solutions to the problem (though I've tried almost everything) would be even more appreciated. Here's my idea: The saved game files from after I exceeded the cap got corrupted somehow (whether by the exp cap remover or by total coincidence) If that's the case, I should be ok if I try again from a pre-cap saved game. I just want some input before I go ahead.

I encountered a likewise problem when trying out a game with no XPcap. The problem corrected itself once I installed the expanded rules patch also available from TeamBG. Hope this might help you as well.

Hmm...No one's ever suggested that before. Thanks Thomas, I'll go try that now.

Magusg I believe Thomas is right . I have even heard that without the rules being added that your level will be -1 when you go above the cap.

No dice, guys. Darn it. No change. And Weasel, they leveled up properly. My conjurer reached level 18, and even casted 9th level spells. Just have the stupid save/load/clear data slowdown. What usually takes 2 sec takes 5 min...each. The thing you guys were talking about was the level 50 rules pack, right?

Yes As for -1 I didn't have this problem myself , but someone e-mailed me asking what was causing this to happen . I told him to try to download the 50 level rules and he said it fixed his. Have you be using CLUAC?

Nah, I don't cheat. At least, I don't consider the exp cap remover cheating. Didn't touch the CLUA console.

Just checking . I've got a file that keeps filling up when I use CLUAC. I thought this might be slowing your game down. As for CLUAC I don't consider it cheating , but that's me. The way I look at it I finished the game without it now I'm going to experiment.

I'm not pointing any fingers, Weasel. Personally, I believe that you should play through the game at least once without "cheating." After that, messing with the game for replay value is ok. I was just stating that I haven't even seen the CLUA console before because I never use it.

@Magusg I know you weren't pointing fingers and I agree with you on finishing the game without "cheating" the first time. Now once you finish the game.....it's on. Lucian has got me think of all kind of possibilities.

Weasel; What's that file? May be causing my slowdowns.
And I agree too. At least one time through before 'experimentation'.

It's the notebook you put debug in. Check the bottom of the page and I believe you will see what I mean. Every time I use CLUAC it leaves a copy of it there. I Been deleting it out of mine every now and then .Like I said am not that technical but I do experiment.

Yeah, I checked that. It's empty and always has been empty for some reason. Must only be used for multiplayer or something.

That's where areas are stored. They're supposed to improve your loading times. But yeah, I deleted it once at the behest of the guy I'm dealing with from Interplay, and it didn't help.

Drakron is right my game will speed up some if I delete the files in the cache folder.

Magusg what frame rate do you run? And what size is your cache?

My frame rate's 30. My cache was originally 300MB, but I changed it to 1000MB after I had this problem (I just changed it back to 300MB after you stated it makes the game run slower). I also noticed the game just runs generally slower from the recent save games, as well as the problems I listed before.
