CPU Usage is 100% - IWD II Lags

Post by t0tallyb0gus »

Hey Gang,

I know - any kind of tech question is hardly much fun to write - and even less fun to answer; but i'll give it a shot.

I'm a long time IWD II and infinity engine game player - recently, I decided to install IWD II on my 2.4 mghz machine with 2 gigs of ram.

Much to my dismay, the game runs and is playable, but runs exceptionally slow - especially if there are multiple npcs/monsters on the screen.

So, I went ahead and discovered that IWD II is consuming 100% CPU usage. This is a bit of a drag, as games like BGII were loathe to even go over 20% CPU. I'm running XP Home, and not using any sort of strange compatibility schemes for starting up - and i've an NVidia Geforce 6600 with 256mb of ram.

Any suggestions? I'm desperate to get back into the game, but this is a terrible pain - even setting the specs to 'minimal' in the configuration seems to offer no solution.

- Best Regards,

Wasn't there allways a problem with the ingame cache ?....I think you can change that in the configuration setup ( should be accessable from your start menu on your desktop ). It was set to 200 MB or so as a default which was allways to low anyway. Recommended was about 700 MB or so. I know this was a problem in the Baldur's Gate Series and Icewind Dale I, can't remember if it was the same in Icewind Dale II, but you might wanna take a look !
