how do i create a dragon armor(or wyvern or umberhulk armor)

You need the required materials and then the required skill in Craft Armor as well. It all depends on the armor you want to creater (Leather, full plate, etc).

I would also like some further clarification on this issue.

I've read a few places about making tower shields out of Zanathar or Duskwood, BUT all the molds I can find say then require metal ignots. I've tried substituting wood planks or umber hulk hides in place of the metal, but I keep getting the invalid recipie message. Am I doing something wrong or am I experiencing a bug?

So there is no confusion:
On the blacksmith's bench, I'm putting the tower shield mold, number of hides/planks as mold requires metal ignots (two I think). Then I use the blacksmith's hammer on the bench and get the invalid recipie message.

Hmm, first off, what is your craft armor rank, and what type of shield are you trying to create?
