weird battle behavior - script problem?

Hi
I have two odd things happening in combat.

One, my mage is acting weird. When using a ranged weapon and even when using a ranged spell, the mage actually walks right up to the monster in question to attack it, rather than doing so from a safe distance! When it comes to slings, that seems rather ineffective

Also, during combat, my fighters pretty much just end up standing around once their personal foe has bit the dust instead of going over to help the others with theirs.

I did make some changes to the scripts at one point when I did NOT want them to automatically attack. Then I set them all back to NONE.
Now they won't attack at all. I tried some of the other scripts (ranged, aggro etc) but nothing seems to work.

I must be overlooking something obvious.
My main concern is for the mage. The other spell casters (Imoen and Jahiera) are using their ranged weapons appropriately. I tried different slings and bullets, but still, my mage keeps walking up to the enemy and whacks them over the head - and ends up dead. :(

Script AI in these games is notoriously bad, as you've discovered. You're manage better if you turn it off, and direct all combat yourself. But that's up to you, of course.

Unless you download some of the actually useful scripts from the web, then as fable said it is best to disable the party AI and direct each party member.

This is especially easy if you adjust your feedback options to pause upon spell cast, enemy dead, end of round, etc. While this can be overwhelming at first due to all of the unpausing, once you get the hang of it you can really take advantage of your party member's abilities.

Thanks. Well, I was looking at the scripts in the modify menu. But it was the A.I. button in the bottom right corner that confused me. I usually have it turned on.

Still does not explain the odd mage behavior, though. Basically, he's useless to me now, since he's just not content to lob his missiles (magical or otherwise) from the sidelines. I suppose I could ditch him and fetch one of the others.
Bugs me, though :(

Maybe I could load up Edwin and let him have a go at Minsc :)
