Question about the spoiler function.

Well, Buck, I have to commend you and the staff on the effort to make a useful highlightable spoiler function (ie: highlight for spoiler
Spoiler
just a demonstration, folks
).

Could it ever be possible, though, to have that keyed to be typed in around text like you can with colors or quotes? If it is possible, I'd think that might help promote its usage and reduce the probability of future spoilage of threads.

If it were possible, I think that would a really great idea!
Not everyone here is code savvy, especially newer members, so that might indeed help.
Of course... some people don't take notice of things even if they are half an inch from the eyes (I could go on... :D ), but yes, that could be very helpful.
I've actually had a few people new to the forums PM me and ask how to use the spoiler function.

It is indeed possible. I forget the coding to do that, but I do know it's possible and the only thing Buck would need to do is both put the code in and have an image to appear that you can click on to make the spoiler UBBC appear in the reply box all on its own.

EDIT:

Found a code, though they don't do a very good job of explaining it.
<input type="button" class="bginput" value=" X " onclick="vbcode(this.form,'spoiler','')" onmouseover="stat('x')" title="Spoiler (alt+x)" accesskey="x" >
Apparently it goes in the "vbcode_buttons" or whatever and I guess it would display an X that you can click on. I could be seriously wrong though.

I don't have a custom icon for the
Spoiler
tag, so I've reused the quote one. You'll now find it on the far right of the second row on the WYSIWYG editor. Is that what you were looking for in order to make the spoiler code easier to use?

I think it will work great. IF you can find a way to get the people to read through an announcement about the spoiler button.
Spoiler
No one pays attention to board announcements!

That looks great Buck. The function appears when you run your cursor over the icon, so anyone who takes notice of such things will certainly use it.
It will also make it easier to explain how to insert spoilers when people ask.

I will probably make mention of it in the spoiler stickies of the game forums I mod.

If anyone finds a 21x20 icon lying around somewhere that they think would make a good choice for the spoiler function, please let me know. Otherwise, I could probably just crop a portion of our logo to use for it.

I just ran a google image search for small spoiler icons. Given the size limitations, I couldn't find anything that made it clear what the button was. The closest I found was a few buttons with an "S" in them. Here's one for you:

"S" icon image

Odd. I have books written by the owner of that website the icon was found on with the google search function. :speech:

There is also this one, hard to read but it might fit better with the coloring of the site. It says "Spoiler" right on it, but again, it is so small it is hard to read. I resized it to a 21 x 15 and attached it for you. That seems to be about as close as I could get the height without it becoming unreadable with the width at the maximum.

That first one you posted, yellow circle and red "S" would work perfectly I would think.

I made this in paint just now. I don't know if it's any help.

That should work, dude. I'm PMing Buck to get his verdict.

Excellent idea, Magelord. I uploaded your image, but then realized that it had to be about 25% smaller (14x16) in order to give it a border and make it look right with the other icons. I've went with your idea and placed an "S" on top of a small background of my own. I had to drop the exclamation point due to the smaller footprint, though. Let me know if this new icon works.
