Dark Elf Ability

I have a quick question, does the Dark Elf special ability Ancestor Guardian level with the character, or does it remain at a low level. Is the special ability even that good?
Summon ancestor is lame...*MINOR SPOILER*
Don't select this race because of the special ability. You won't be thrilled. Only works once a day, too.
