Hi --
Anybody else think BGII gets too easy once your party members get past 12/13/14th level (or so)? I was a novice player when I started, I kept Mazzy and Misc as my fighters (yes), and still by the time I got to the Drow city I didn't have to pay much attention to battles, usually M&M killed anything/everything with little strategy involved.
I liked it best when all my characters were scrapping, spells mattered a LOT, and I was killed occasionally. I'm bored now and probably won't finish the game, it's just tedious walking around killing everything with no problem. For those of you that maximize your party/characters, I'm sure you reached this stage far faster than I. Hell, I still have Mazzy whacking people with a short sword.

Yes I have increased the difficulty of combat as well, and that lengthens battles but does not change the outcome (I win).

Is this a flaw in the game or am I such a wicked great wonderful stellar player that I just can't be beat? (not).

Any other bored players out there?

Dump an NPC or two and see if that livens things up. Hell, try to complete the game with just the PC if you like.

Most fights in the game aren't that challenging. Generally by the underdark I have a single fighter run in and kill everything.

First time through I just focused on the story line rather than the combat which mostly was done quickly anyway. Second time through I tried to do it as quickly as possible including all side quests (24 days).

If you want a challenge, try playing it solo. If that's still too easy, try playing it solo with single class thief. If that's still too easy, try playing it solo with a Beastmaster. If that's still too easy, try playing it solo with a character with minimum stats, ie. 3's except class requirements...

If that's still too easy, you are such a wicked wonderful stellar player that you just can't be beat.

I just roam around with 4 characters, I have for quite some time: Minsc, Mazzy, my Illusionist, and the Druid. The druid is, naturally, nearly useless but I like the werewolf form. I could cut it to 3 (2 fighters and my illusionist) but isn't this a game balance issue?

Shouldn't the game be a challenge to an average player even after the halfway point?

You can't please everyone. Some people bitch about the exp cap stopping them too early, then other people bitch about the game being too easy even with the cap.* Here's a wild idea: if Mazzy and Minsc are killing everything too easily for you, drop them. Or just switch them to weapons that they don't have proficiency points for if you're too attached to the characters to ditch them. If you've kept the same party throughout the game and run all the quests then you can't really blame Black Isle for them being strong, can you?

*-Yes, I'm well aware that I complain about things so often that the symbol might as well replace my name, but there's an important difference in that I complain about bugs and programming defects. So everyone who was going to point that out can just bite me. (grin)

Try doing almost all the quests in chap. 2, and 3. Trust me, those quests will be much harder during the early stages of the game.
