Well first of all: you can only backstab when you are hiding in shadows, and only with a dagger, short sword and i think that the katana work also, but i'm not sure, then just attack the one that you wish to backstab, and voila!! Image Image Image

You can backstab seemingly with anything that your thief can have in his hands, not just daggers and short swords. Long swords work just as nice for instance.

Anyway, to succesfully make a backstab, hide in the shadows, and then move the thief BEHIND the enemy to backstab. You can only backstab someone in his back, otherwise it wouldn't be called a backstab, right? Image

You might want to check out the dialog box, and check the damage done. It should say something like 'backstab damage multiplier Ax' followed by a load of damage.

Note that some creatures can't be backstabbed, like Slimes and Beholders, Gauths, etc... Most (if not all) Humanoid creatures can be backstabbed.

Valygar has a special problem where he can't backstab with weapons that you're suppose to be able to backstab with, like the katana he has when he first joins you. I dunno what the deal is with that.
