I've modeled a weapon in 3ds MAX, and ive exported it to morrowind via the CS. However, it has no texture. I had atexture on it in Max, I thought it would export in the .nif file since mods only have a nif file and an icon file. So how do i get a texture on it?

You have to use a picture as a texture. A bitmap will do but people tend to go for a DDS. You might need a plugin for that though.

Textures saved on to nifs don't work. You need to use a picture as a texture. This picture goes into the textures folder. You then tell the NIF to use that picture as the texture. The icon is the picture you see in your inventory.

Have you moved the texture file since you last saved the NIF?

no, whenever I export something, anything, it always crashes, UNLESS, I double click it real quick to load up the properties, then i can do everything without it dieing.

I mean, I can make the weapon, but when I drop it into the level, it almost immediately crashes.

Make sure that the construction set is set to the latest NIF file by double clicking and setting it in the top right box.

didnt work either. It just randomly works and randomly doesnt. It has some missing polygons in it, like where i could save some for framrate, parts you cant see, like the sword when its through the hilt. This shouldnt cause a problem right?

I can't think of anything. I can't actually model anything yet so I haven't put a self made model in and I use Blender which is free instead of the few 1000 3DSMax is. What version are you running?

I've read something about using version 8. I think you need someone with version 5 to export it for you.
3 D Studio Max
From Autodesk: Autodesk® 3ds Max® 8 software builds on our promise to deliver state-of-the-art tools for creative and media professionals. Developed as a total animation package with a deep, productive feature set designed to accelerate workflow, 3ds Max is the leader in 3D animation for game development, design visualization, visual effects, and education.
NOTE: In order to create new mesh for Morrowind, you need to use 3 D Studio Max 3, 4 or 5. You can't buy these programs anymore on the site of the editor. You've got three possibble solutions:
1 - Buy (~ 3.500 $) and use 3 D Studio Max 8 to make your mesh, then ask someone with an older version to export the new mesh for you.
2 - Try to find an old version of 3 D Studio Max 3, 4 or 5 on a website like e bay.
3 - Use another program mentionned here.
