Obsidian Tours ADI

To get this forum started, I thought I'd point out some pictures that Obsidian's J.E. Sawyer posted on the OE forums. They're from a tour through ADI, a visual effects studio involved with a few of the Alien movies.

Checking out these pictures makes me wonder if it even matters that they're basing the game on the Alien franchise. If they can pull of a solid sci-fi RPG with excellent production values, does it really matter if the game has a movie tie-in?

Maybe they took the pictures in order to get an idea on how to design an alien (minus the Predator guy)? Just a thought: To be honest, I'm not sure an Aliens game using the KOTOR 2 (or Neverwinter Nights 2) formulae would fit the horror theme of Aliens. The Aliens movies are very well known for the horror factor and if this RPG uses the KOTOR 2 formulae, it may take away the horror factor of the game. Perhaps this could be the reason why there are no RPGs based on the horror theme?

Perhaps Obsidian can go for a hybrid RPG like Deus Ex or the upcoming Bioshock to retain the horror feel of the game but the problem is can Obsidian do this? Well, we might just have to wait and see how this all turns out. :)

if they use that same system as Predator:concred jungel it will still have the horror(more like an action rpg).

would more go for diablo 2. but as we all have seen in the movie, they climb all around and all so i think it would be cool if they to the same system as Assassin's Creed since you can blimb almosevery where you can get your hands at..

Love the film Aliens, first was great as well, not too big on the others.

Think the first post was right - we could use a good sci-fi RPG nowadays, doesn't have to be based on any film or IP.

Anyways, I agree that an RPG hit point style system might not transfer so well to the Alien/horror genre - you get raked by an Alien, so what, you've got more hit points.

I think to balance action with horror they need to take a note from the first two films - Aliens are almost unstoppable close in, at range they're cannon fodder.

Not much is known aside from the few links posted at the news section and those links in the first post. In my opinion, I have a lot of doubts about this Alien RPG game in the first place. How are they (Obsidian) going to nail down the horror factor that is well known in the Alien movies? I find that shooters and action games excel in this department and I have never seen an RPG focus on this element before.

Speaking of the Aliens game, I am looking forward more to what Gearbox Software is offering than Obsidian, if you ask me. ;)

I could see a Fallout Style interface working with an Aliens theme (ie Alien 2).

Play the Beachhouse Hotel quest in Vampire: Bloodlines.
