After killing the 3rd Shadow Reaver I was able to pick the Tome of Iltkazar, but when I checked my inventory I discovered 2 copies of the book. Now the weird part is that I was told by the journal that Aldanon would like to see the tome, but I can't talk to him about them.

What can I do to progress further in the game at this point? I have the Tome, but I can't talk to any of the npc's about it.

It sounds to me like a bug in the game. I killed the 3rd Reaver,got the book and had no problems after. You can try reloading (if the save isn't too old), or check for updates (not sure if I have the latest version either, but I didn't have the problem)
