What do you think is the best equipment for your PC? My pc is a level 7fighter elf with:
Str - 18(88)
Dex - 19
Con - 17
Int - 10
Wis - 11
Cha - 16(18 with the cloak)
He uses Helmet of defense, Full plate mail, large shield+1, boots of speed, ring of protection+1, gauntlets of weapon expertise, ring of fire resistance, algernon's cloak, necklace of missiles, and as a weapon a longsword +2. I'm currently on my way to the cloakwood mines, I would like to know what do you think that is the best equipment for your PC. In any class you play with of course! thz

POSSIBLE SLIGHT SPOILERS
I would personally use Durlag's plate instead of the full plate mail. Yes I know that you cannot use the ring of protection with it, but it is lighter, so you can carry more equipment. It also frees up a slot to use another ring, ring of invisibility for example. I presume the longsword you are suggesting is Greywolf's, if so I would agree if I were playing solo, though I tend to give that to my thief and use one of the other swords such as one of those found in Cloakwood, or even the axe+1, later to be replaced my the axe+2 along with the returning throwing axe when playing as a group. This means that you have a ranged weapon and a shield, quite an advantage. At the beginning of the game I would certainly use Algernon's Cloak, though later on I would replace it with the cloak available in Ulgorth's Beard or Balduran's Cloak. I would replace the Helmet of Defence with Balduran's when you get it. In general I tend to avoid overusing Algernon's Cloak as it makes the game a bit too easy. You say that you have the boots of speed and are on the way to the Cloakwood Mines. If there is a pair before the mines I would be delighted to hear about it. Other than that, I concur wholeheartedly. Of course I would also replace the shield on arriving at Baldur's Gate, I might even pick up the better shield found in Durlag's Tower before going to Cloakwood.

For A single classed Fighter
Helm BAlduran
Cloak Balderon
Bracers of Weapon Expertise
Boots of Speed
Full Plate +1
Large Shield +2
+5 Defender Simitar
Ring of fire protection
Ring of Free Action
Neclace of magic missles or Greenstone Amulet
5 potions of healing
5 potions of exploitions
5 Strength potions (preferably storm giant or better)
Belt switch depending on battle Either Bluntness or Piercing.
A fighter with good stats and this equipment will make the game a little borring. LOL. Especially a dwarf fighter with 20con which I prefer for BGI.

I would agree that this is very good equipment, but still have the view that Durlag's +3 Armour is better due to its lightness. I would also prefer the large shield +1, +4 against missile weapons, and why stick at 5 potions of healing. Those that you get in Durlag's tower of 10 or more stack together so that you can have 20+. Minor quibbles however.

My PC tends to rely on stealth being a chotic good solo fighter/thief. I therefore use much of the equipment mentioned by Jordoo except that I use the shadow armour instead of plate. It also means that I cannot have Defender, as a good character would never have any of Drizzt's possessions. I therefore have to make do with Greywolf's Sword. I would also have the bow found in the bandit Camp. I usually pickpocket it, as being good, I try and avoid killing unless it is strictly necessary. I can well understand that people would have different views on that, but that is my own personal ethos.

Grimwald,
I agree that the +3 plate is greet and very light. Characters also looks really cool in golden armor.LOL
But if you are playing a single classes fighter you will inevitably have 19 strength and the weight won't matter. I usually use that armor for my weakling clerics in BGI with low strength.
Shield +1+4 over +2 fine thats totally your choice you gain as much as you lose from one to the other.
Poitions OK you got me on the healing potions forgot about the big stacks you get in Durlags Tower.
Definately have to go with the Drizzts Chain Mail for a fighter/thief. My characters always asume that all Drow are bad and don't realize that they killed a good guy until its too late then they vow to avenge his death by doing good from then on.LOL
But like you say its up to the individual. (I personally can't pass up these powerful items)

For a solo fighter/thief, I can see your point. However, if I were playing a group, I would keep Drizzt's Mail for my Ranger as it is the best armour which a ranger can use along with stealth. I would then use shadow armour for my thief.

Isn't the dagger of venom better for a fighter/thief?

It does have its points, however with Greywolfs sword you quite regularly kill the enemy with one blow, and if the target resists poison you can sometimes have a problem. I suppose the answer is to have them both and choose which you want to use according to circumstances. As you no doubt know, the dagger of venom is particularly effective against mages, as are poison arrows.

Nobody picked me up on it, but I made a mistake. The armour is that of Thunderaxe not Durlag. I often use the Helm of Glory with it rather than Baldur's Helmet partly to raise Charisma, but also because they look so good together. I then use Baldur's Helmet for a weaker character. On the subject of the helm of Glory, I cannot understand why its appearance has been changed in BG II. It looks cool in BG I, so why was it changed?
