Unsupported monitor resolutions

I recently purchased a Viewsonic VX2025WM 20" LCD monitor, which looks great. But although its preferred res is 1680 x 1050, I'm currently running it in 1440 x 900, which is officially unsupported. A lower res like 1280 is supported, but it also looks pretty funny, stretching out things horizontally; and I just like the 1440 x 900, better. Still, am I creating problems for the monitor at that unsupported res?

Shouldn't be. If you're going less than the recommended resoloution, you're basically making it use less pixels, which is beneficial to the monitor.

It's kinda like a video game and your PC specs and all. It's gonna be harder on your computer to run at 1024 by 768 than it would be if you ran it at 800 by 600. It doesn't matter if it's unsupported, that just means it's not a common resoloution the manufacturers have tested.
