Savegame problem

Hello everybody
I have a problem with my savegames. Everything works fine at first, I used my first 2 slots and they work, but then I saved in the other slots and when I try to load my game it says Unable to load... I used my second slot, and then tried to overwrite on it ... it also got corrupted

I tried to delete all my saves and start over, but I have the same problem.
I'm sorry if this was posted already, I didn't find it in the FAQ and i don't have much time... I have been already searching for a solution and patches for awhile.
I have version 1.05 of the game.

Have you perhaps saved while in combat mode? This is something that tends to corrupt the save slots...
Also, do you have your Skills -button greyed and unable to use? I have a vague image that the Too Many Items -bug, which has those two symptons, may also cause save slots to corrupt...

Thank you for your quick answer. My skills button isn't grayed out, but it is very possible that I have saved in combat mode. Damn

No way to fix this?

Sorry, but as far as I know the only way would be reinstalling the game...
Though you could try to take the save from first slot (you haven't used it after the problem occured, right?) and try to use it to reinstalled game. That may save you from playing from the very beginning. Though that can also lead to second reinstalling...

I have reinstalled the game, and when I try to load the game it gives me an error. I can't see it, because Fallout 2 becomes Not Responding and I can't minimize it to see the message. Owned
Here's what I have done:
1. Installed the game (large)
2. Put the official patch (1.02)
3. Put the 1.04 patch
4. Put the 1.05 patch, and the update for it (I have put the update in the data/maps folder)
PS: This only seems to happen in The Den.

Is this fresh save or one before reinstalling?

And this only happens when the saving has done in The Den?

I didn't manage to get far, but it seems saves from the Temple / first village (can't remember the name

) / Klamath work...

Is this testing done with the same character? I mean, would it help if you create again new character?
And, as this problem didn't occur before reinstalling the game, it could be that reinstalling could solve it... but I wouldn't try that quite yet...

The first time i have installed the game I have used a predefined character. The error i was getting in The Den did not exit the game, it took me to the menu instead. It was the Huge install, patched up to 1.05.
I reinstalled, this time Large, patched up to 1.05, and created a new character (made it myself). Now I get a critical error when I load a savegame from The Den.

Just a though... could this be caused by the patches? Are you sure you are using correct versions? I mean, do you have US, English Low Violence, or perhaps other version? And does the versions of the patches match with the game's version?
Oh, and BTW, you probably won't need that 1.02 version patch anyway, as every recent version of the game is already patched to 1.02...

Possible... how do I tell which version I have?

Sorry, I'm a noob in Fallout 2, just got it...

From top of my head I would say to check the readme file of the game. Or the try to find such file from the cd.
Also, do you have kids in your game? It may be hard to tell, but if you manage to Klamath, you may check this.
And just came to my mind, what if you remove that 1.02 patch from install order? That COULD mess something in your game, but honestly not sure about it...

I did find smth in the readme file... it says that the violence levels can be changed and the language filter button can be turned on and off if I have the UK version.... and I have this features. => I have the UK version. I'm a rocket scientist
Now that this is out of the way, i'll reinstall without the 1.02 patch.
PS: There are a few kids in Klamath running like mad

Hmm... IIRC UK version didn't include children...
But it's rather easy to check:
After installing the game, check the readme before installing any patches. THere should be mentioned in very beginning what version you are using...

Nope, nothing in the readme about the version I have. Not even on the CD. But in one of the patches readme it says that the US version is version 1.00 without any patch, and that's what I have. I have the language filter and violence level controler though

Odd...
So now I should put the 1.04 patch or go straight for 1.05 ?

Don't count on what the patches says about what the version your vanilla game should be...
Okay, just run the vanilla game without any patches. In the main menu there should shomewhere (IIRC lower left corner) visible the version you are using.
Oh, and the order would be 1.04 and then 1.05..
Though I suggest to download 1.03 as well from
No Mutants Allowed - Your Post Nuclear News Center!
But lets check the version first, shall we
