Hello guys,

I am currently soloing the game with a half-elf FMT and am right now in Spellhold. Just reached the 3 000 000 XP checkpoint and chose USE ANY ITEM for my ability. It was my belief that this would make me able to backstab dual-wielding CF and Dakkon Zerth Something-blade but it doesn't work. I go into stealth mode and then I just have to attack, right? Well, I can't! My Hide in Shadows skill is around 100, Move Silently the same. Have I missed something?

You do have to stand behind or at least slightly behind/next to someone for backstab to work.

While you can 'Use Any Item' when you have that ability, I think 'Backstabbing' can only be accomplished when wielding items usable by a single class thief (daggers, short/longswords, staves, clubs, etc).

At least, I think so...

CFM is correct. It has been tested and proved, so, in order to backstab you do have to use thief weapons.

I believe that Katanas can be used by Thieves in BG2.
