When should I begin Chapter 4 ?

I would have liked to enter chapter 4 early to get Imoen back, but I understand you then can't do chapter 2 and 3 sidequests anymore (at least before chapter 6). And not doing these quests may mean being to weak for the monsters of chapters 4 to 6. So is there a minimum level I should reach before taking this boat ? Right now I'm a fighter level 11 with Vic, Nallia, Aerie, Keldorn & Yoshimo.

First of all I think you have a pretty good mix of NPCs in your party.
I would suggest that you do your PC quest and NPC specific quests before moving on. That experience will really come in handy later. Most of my party was at level 13 before leaving and almost all of them hit 14 or 15 during chapter 4. I had no problems going through the Asylum (see my 'Irenicus is a pansy' post). I don't think I rested or casted a single healing spell as I went through the asylum (but I did have ring of Gaxx and ring of regeneration

).

Imoen is way behind the others in experience now, but Nalia is a damn good mage.

You might want to keep an eye on Keldorn and Vic. though ... they don't really like one another ...

I hurried through the first few chapters, trying to get Imoen back as quickly as possible. I am now in the underdark, and haven't come up against anything that couldn't be taken down in a few tries... I plan on getting through the plotline as fast as possible, then replaying the game with different characters, and at a slower pace.

Get a party you plan on sticking with for a while then jump to Ch. 3 for the extra XP for them. You hit Ch. 4 and you're pretty much locked in on the plotline until Ch. 6 which is a loooong ways off.

I agree with the above, get to lv13 at least before going on; try to finish most of the NPC-related quests and other random quests to jack your exp. up then head off to the island. I don't think Imoen is that worth it, frankly, but trust us all when we say you shouldn't be in a rush to get to her.

By the way, I mispelled it, my second fighter is Korgan, not Keldorn. 'till now no pb with Aerie, hope it will last... I planned to drop Aerie for Imoen, but I finally will stick with her for a while and finish more side quests.
