Event sequence questions....

I am curious about the normal flow of events in the game. I am currently playing in chapter 2, and I have had several NPC events piling up one after the other. I came out of chapter 1 and proceeded to do some minor quests, like the circus, the slavers, and Korgan's search for his book. I met Nalia, who of course was badgering me to go to her keep...did Jaheira's curse and the Xzar stuff. At one point Nalia gripes at me for not being fast enough, and threatens to leave the group. I just lied to her and told her we would go right now. Instead, I finished what I was doing.
I also have Anomen on the group; literally seconds before I am finally headed out to the D'Arnisse keep, a messenger shows up and tells him of his sister's death. Of course, he wants me to drop everything and head to his father's home. Again, I told him, Okay, lets go; and then proceeded to go deal with Nalia's quest, during which Anomen started complaining. Add to that Jaheira getting summoned to the Harpers DURING the cleansing of the keep....you get the idea.
The questions: 1) Is this pretty set in stone, that these events pile up like this (I have NOT been resting an excessive amount...)
2) If you just lie to NPC's demanding that you drop everything for their sake, is there any repercussions; and 3) is there ANY specific order that some events must be done? I ask the last because I have lots of unfinished quests that people have given me, and have not had the time for (Umar hills, Windspear Hills, Trademeet, etc).
Geez, sorry people, I seem to have written a BOOK.....

I would advise you to take the quests as the NPC's says, they might leave you otherwise there are no order of progress. Sure there are certain quests that you have to do in order to get to the next linked quest but that comes natural. In act two the quests will pile up you will feel like when you are out doing one quest you get 3 new ones but this is only to a certain time in the game then it will start to go in the other direction. If you don't feel like going around and doing all the little quests just save them till you get back but the more you do the higher lvl and the more easy in underdark (+money and items)
I believe I have just made a sequel to your book

Well, I have just got ambushed by Galvarey and his harper cronies; I have made Anomen happy, finished Nalia's quest and am now faced with where to go next. I have enough money to go to Gaylen (sp?) and pay for help with Imoen, but am not sure if I want to pursue that yet. No NPC I have is pressing me to do anythin right now.
This is my first time through the game, so no spoilers, please. I just want some guidance on all these possibilities.
Your advice: do I go out to one of the hills quests, trademeet, do the unseeing eyes, the thieve's guild stuff, fallen Paladins, pay the 15k gold for the "get Imoen" quest or something I don't yet know about? I have a party consisting of an Undead Hunter, Minsc, Jaheira, Nalia, Anomen, and Jan. Average level is 9-10. I would very much like to get Imoen back as soon as I have the firepower to do it, but don't know when that will be.
Another chapter in the book.....

Without spoilers:
I had a friend that got his 6 NPC's and 15.000 Gp then he went on with the ship and when he got to underdark he had to start over because of to much a$$wuping (pardon my French) I was told that the comp. Tries to fit the attacker force with your own, it may well be but only to a certain extend. There are some items you just must have before moving on. Items are as important as lvl IMHO.
I would wait just a little bit if I were you by it is very possible if you choose to go now.

Thanks. I think I will head for the hills. One of them, anyway.

I did Nalia's and Anomen's quest, as well as the Unseeing Eye quest and was more than ready for Brynnlaw, Spellhold and the Underdark.
I personally would advise rescuing Imoen ASAP, at least if you're planning to keep her. You can still do the Athkatla and Hills quests later when you return.
Windspear Hills is a quite difficult territory, so leave it be for now.

When you say "Anomen's quest", are you talking about seeing his drunk-off-his-ass father and the talk with the magistrate? Or is there more of this plotline that I have to look forward to?
I know Windspear is a toughie. Is it worse than the unseeing eyes? How about Umar hills vs. unseeing eyes?
And yes, I DO plan to get and keep Imoen in the group, and do not want her to be the "weak link" in terms of power.

Yes, that's what I meant with 'Anomen's quest'. AFAIK those are the quests with time limits.
Umar Hills was a piece of cake when I got there, but I already mentioned that I did Imoen's rescue before.
If you're really planing to keep her, take the rescue quest, as soon as you have the 15K gold. Every quest you do without her, will make her weaker in the end.

Umar hills is a easy one but you don't just do Umar (don't get me wrong) nearly all the quests there are conected to the areas around Umar hills. still there are the wizard/golem/love quest to be done and you will find Valk. in a hut if you feel like going to planer S.
