i paid bounty on my head

i stole a 15000 goldpice sheild from balmora temple so i joined the theives guild so i could pay off my bounty and i payed it off but the guards still attack me why is this.

There's a shield worth 15,000 in Balmora?:speech:
I, too, was attacked by guards once after paying off my bounty. Glitch, maybe?

It might be the re-spawn bug. If you kill guards, when they re-spawn, the re-spawns still have you tagged as an enemy and therefore attack you. If I remember correctly you don't get a bounty put on you when this happens, so it's actually a way to boost levels and make money.

It's happened to me once or twice as well. You could try casting a calm spell on them to see if that fixes it.
