Noobie help - 10 levels of paladin, now what?

Hello,

I've been playing BG2 for like a zillion years so I'm not used to the "new" (not so new now) D&D rules. I liked the day you picked one class and that was best for all. Now I'm playing NWN and bashing through chapter 2 and I just reached my 10th level of paladiness. What's best to do now? Should I pick a couple of levels of fighter? Paladin is getting boring and the spells kind of suck. Are there any negative things about picking a few classes of everything or is it all positive?

Hmm, just want to point out that if you go out of paladin now then you won't be getting back in. I would say you could go fighter or cleric, eitherway it'd work out pretty well for 20 levels of class, dunno if you have the expansions to the game or not as if you had Hordes of the underdark, that may make a difference in what you choose (prestige classes plus the max level is 40)

What weapon are you using?

Longsword, currently Astral Blade +2. Now in Chapter 3, 10 levels of paladin and 3 levels of Champion of Thorm. Can I just go with CoT all the way to lvl 40?

yea, but i would suggest that you take10 levels of weapon master if you like to be melee oriented... take strenghth of at least25 to get the devastating critical, it kills with one hit, exeot if the opponent makes a succesful fortitude save, I think. If you take wep master, your critical hit ratio would be really high(something near 10-20!)

By the way, jag är finska. :D

I doubt you'll reach level 40 in the original campaign, since it was made before the level 40 limit was added.

In HOTU you will most likely finish no higher than level 32, in SoU probably level 12 to 15, and in the OC there is a level cap of 20 but you'll probably finish somewhere around level 16 to 18. Its always worth bearing this in mind when planning your character :)

Hm.... I think I actually hit 20 in the OC, but that was before I installed HotU or SoU. In SoU I ended up as 13 and in HotU, 29.

But I just finished the original campaign at lvl 16 (10 paladin, 6 Champion of Thorm) and started SoU at level 16 (same character)... but I don't understand. How can you hit lvl 20 in the OC and go to lvl 13 in SoU? If you choose the same character in the expansion as you finished the OC, you should start at lvl 20. How can you then go to lvl 13? Do you LOSE levels? Anyway, I'm now lvl 16 and I can't go much higher as I did ALL quests available and killed everything in sight for XP. I've heard the same characters in OC + HotU + SoU gets close to lvl 40. Is this not correct?

So my character is now:
10 lvl paladin
6 lvl Champion of Thorm

Stats are
18 strength, 23 boosted
20 charisma, 23 boosted
14 constitution
10 dexterity
10 intelligence

You think I should take some levels of Weapon Master?

Well, I just noticed I can't take weapon master... requires a lot of feats I don't have, and those feats require dex of 13+, which I don't have. So...

But I still wonder what you meant by finishing the OC at 20 and SoU at 13!

Because the happenings in OC and SoU takes place at the same time. That's why I started a different character for SoU than I had in OC.

I've never run my char through the OC, SoU and HotU, since most of my characters only become powerful after level 20 or so. (roleplaying and all that). And if I transfered my char from OC to SoU, that would make SoU all to easy.
