Non Working Spells

Here it is again after countless private messages asking me which spells and magic don't seem to work.. Could a moderator please make this thread sticky so it always available to read right off?

The list I have made up goes by type of magic and the spells in that type that do not work.

Nether Magic: Choking cloud and suffocating cloud do not work. as well as Possesion, Confusion, Blinding fog, Dragon claws, and Poison touch,

Arcane Magic: Wall of fire, Pillar of fire, Fire missles, Fire storm, Ice storm, Burning vapors, Freezing vapors, Fire Mine

Celestial Magic: Divine Grace, Illusionary visage, Blink, and Prismatic rays

Rune Magic: Vengance, Urths Wrath, Orbs of defense, Rock mines, And sanctuary doesn't seem to work or doesn't work for that long..

The celestial Crystal "Stargazer" works by refilling all your celstial crystals back to full strength but only if your a member of the celestial order and activate it in one of the two celestial temples.

I've not even seen these in the game.
Playing Collector's Edition.
The spell to get... Cataclysm. (Arcane Magic attained from the demon you have to bargain with. - If you select the spell rather than the weapon for a reward from the tomb.) It is a killer spell.

I'm pretty sure you have to edit your file to get these spells in your game, cause I've found no other way to obtain them. :( It's a shame that the '---- Vapors" spells don't work, though.

The worst IMO is the broken Rune Spells, especially the offensive spells, only one seems to work as has been pointed out, which makes progressing in Rune Magic a waste of time and advancement points.

edit: i have tried this spell out since i just got a dried homonculus. it does work and also does damage as well as healing. i will deffinately be using this spell more than my healing spells because it also does damage.

Obtaining spell books

By not working do you mean they don't work or they can't be picked up.

I have come across a number of spell books, such as from chests, but when I pick them up they disappear. I think there is a limit to the number of spell books that can be carried, so any additional ones picked up just vanish.

If anyone can confirm this let me know.

By not working, he means that they are not in the game and - even if you use the editor to give them to your character - they do not work (your character goes through the motions of casting the spell, but nothing happens).

If there is a limit to how many spells you can carry, it hasn't been found yet. To find your spell books, you first have to know if they were arcane or nether spells. Open your equipment screen ("E" by default), and click on the spell type you want to use.

Arcane spells recharge over time. Nether spells require that you have a combination of kataals mixed together to cast them (if you find a nether spell book, it has the ingredients mixed already; otherwise, mix the ingredients that you find throughout the world); the kataals are used when you cast the spell, and do not regenerate.

Spells and potions can be set to short-cut keys (numbers 1-9), so that you don't have to go through your equipment screen to use them every time.

They must have been Nether spell books then, I never realised you got those, I thought all spell books were arcane.

I suppose it's because I never use Nether magic and very rarely Celestrial or Rune magic.

In the Collector's Edition it'll work anywhere, but only if you have it attached to a hot key. It wouldn't work for me by going through the Equipment page->Celestial route and trying to activate it. Once I attached it to a hotkey (I used 1) it worked fine; which was seriously bad news for the mega demon in the Tomb of Souls!

I've had the game (1.4, from a games mag dvd) for several months now, and my take on rune spells is quite different: Despite only three rune spells I find useful, I find these three incredibly useful for magic-heavy characters:

- Shards of Stone: One of the most damaging spells in the game, does great amounts of damage to Stone Giants, demons and other monsters immune to 'conventional magic', too. If you're lousy at combat, this is the spell-truncheon to wield.

- Anti-Magic Shield: Like the Shield of Retribution, this spell lobs magic attacks back at the caster. Very little aiming practice is needed to use this spell to devastating effect against all kinds of enemy casters.

- Spitting Shield: Returns physical / weapon damage to the enemy. The one caveat for this spell is that it overrules the Anti-Magic Shield as well as the Shield of Retribution. With the Spitting Shield active, the spell-returning properties of both are cancelled, they are reduced to plain shields.

Are any fixes to spells not working in CE? Or was this for the collector's edition?

nope they still suck

nope they are still broken and since patches for the game will probably never come out (new ones) they probably never will be........ unless somebody makes a patch themselves which i think happened to sacred2 if i'm not mistaken

Yeah there is new content for sacred 2 that I have not tried out yet. I think I played that game 1000 hours already so I can't stomach it anymore. Maybe in a couple years.
