I would like to have your thoughts on the Peter Forsberg trade.

Personally, I can't believe Nashville gave that much for him. I know he can be the best NHL player when he is healty, but he had his share of injuries in the last years. On top of that, he will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. So that means if he gets injured before the playoffs and miss all of them, Nashville will have lost everything, because he won't be there next year. I truly don't consider this trade a calculated risk.

Do you know how much they paid? I have no idea.

Swedish papers claim the reason he couldn't stay in philadelphia was that he couldn't promise he would play hockey at all next season, so I guess Nashville bought him solely for the play offs.

Considering how injury prone he is I agree it is quite the risk though.

Personally I think it's a bit boring to go to a town without any local hockey culture at all.

Hmm i'm going to say philly got the better of this deal. with Forsberg not having a great season as he is used to and he is getting up there in the years and has been plagued (sp?) with injurys and then philly getting 2 great young guys with upshall and parent (who is going to be great in a few years) and a first rounder? Nashville gave up waaay to much for a less than par forsberg.

Dootie, they gave Upshall (1st round pick in 2002), Parent (1st round pick in 2005) and their 1st and 3rd round picks in the next draft.

I just red that Nashville gave also their first round pick last year for Brendan Witt! So if you count Parent, that means 3 consecutive first round picks gone : Parent, the one they gave last year and the next one! I wonder were Nashville is going to be in 5 years.

Nashville will be okay for a few years, because they have a fairly young core as well as a few good prospects in the minors. If they're smart they'll stop shedding first rounders over the next few years though...

Well, being a Detroit fan, and seeing as Forsburg played for Colorado, I really shouldn't care about this trade. On the other hand, I don't think he's going to do well because he's been getting hurt alot and he's not getting any younger. But that's just my opinion.

Well, I don't wanna ruin this thread, but personally I've always hated (no wait, that's a harsh word), more like greatly dislike Bertuzzie. I personally thought he shouldn't have been able to play again after the Steve Morris incident.

In that case, how does everyone feel about the Ryan Smith trade? I'm only an hour and a half away from edmonton so there is alot of oiler fans here and they were all whining, and I agree, Edmonton gave up alot for nothing.

All I know is that Smitty doesn't look right in anything but Oil colours. He's been the heart and soul of that franchise even though Jason Smith has been the captain.

But his contract expires at the end of the season, so I would love it if Edmonton re-signed him in the offseason.

Not that I'm an Oiler fan or anything, just my thoughts.

Well, we can't say they gave him for nothing. The two players the Islanders gave were 1st round picks and they also gave their 1st round pick for the next draft. If Smyth does not sign with them next year, I think the Islanders will have paid way too much for him.

Rumors here say that the Oilers offered Smith 5,4 millions and that he wanted 5,7. I find it hard to believe that they could not agree on such a little difference. Of course $300 000 is big for me and most of you, but it is not that big for a hockey player or for a hockey team.

If he really wanted to stay in Edomonton he would have taken the small pay cut but I think he just wanted to try out a new team and then re-sign with Edmonton in the offseason. The Edmonton people are really shook up about it though and there is a site on the interweb were people are trying to raise enough money to buy his contract, i think they have like $1000, pretty far from 5 mill.

Well we can definitly say now that the Forsberg trade was a flop for the Predators! The Trashers and Islanders don't look so smart as well.
