Sorry if I missed this, but is BG2 supposed to run fine with Windows XP? I started it up and it was all choppy, even in the opening movies and menus. Is there a patch?

BTW, Windows XP is cool.

Try defrag. with bg 2 you have essentially added a operating system to your OS. I mean full install is around 2 gig, bigger than win me.
if this doesn't work, be patient and report problem to bioware tech support.

*Bump*

Sorry Dracul, I'm not sure.

The problem isn't fixed. :( All my other games run fine, even IWD. I'm going to ask Bioware tech support. So there is no patch?

Bioware don't support 2000 and XP.

What's your graphics card?

Just some general things to do which may help if you havent done them already...

Your not running defult video card/mb drivers are you?Update those both if you have a VIA m/b.

Also, as poster #2 said BG2 is a huge install, it would be best to defrag before and after you install it, that way it will be set in the best place.

Try reverting back to the standard windows GUI if you havent already.

Also....make sure you got enough RAM for Windows XP, as it does take up quite a bit more then the other windows OS's. I'd say have at least 128MB, though 256 is really recommended for BG2/windows XP IMO. Although your other games work fine, BG2 is a real memory hog so the problem could be something simple like your PC aint fast enough.

Also, make sure you dont have any apps running in the background that suck up CPU processing power.

If doing all that doesnt help then its either some twisted hardward/software compatibility thing or biowares fault...It would help if you told us your system specs though.

I've been posting on the Bioware tech support forum, and we found out that the 3D acceleration was the problem. :( If I turned it off the game would run fine, but at a degradation to in-game graphics. I have a Creative Annihilator 2 graphics card. In the BG2config, I can choose a driver for the 3D acceleration. But my only option is OpenGL. I can't get new drivers for my graphics card for XP, because Creative hasn't gotten new drivers out.

Get reference drivers, the Creative Annihilator 2 is an nVidia card isnt it? If so get the detonator XP drivers

Someone at the Bioware forums told me to do the same thing. Here's what happened:
Posted by me on the Bioware board:
Alright, I down loaded the detonator XP driver for my card and I turned on 3D acceleration. The game ran fine, but the in-game graphics are the same with it off or on. What's more, the screen is off center in 800x600. If I change to 1024x768, the screen is centered. How can I change the centering of the screen for the game? The screen is not off center for Windows, only in the game.
:( The ingame graphics are still the same with 3D acceleration on or off. :(

It runs faster with 3d Acceleration though, and its best to get rid of all your problems at least in my opinion, no matter how significant they are :)

I tried, but with 3D acceleration on, the game run way much slower, around 1/5 speed. (PIII 1 GHz, GF2 GTS, XP detonator)

I goofed! I figured out what has happened with the screen. It isn't aligned bad, it just isn't resizing itself. Running at 800x600 (my desktop is at 1024x768), the screen makes the game the size of 800x600, and doesn't make it full screen. Can I fix this?
