Please tell me what is it like. I really like KOTOR and Neverwinter nights, is it like them?

I got started with BG II SOA and TOB....hooked me and went and bought BG I after that, personally I prefer II but I think that's because I played it first.
My answer is get them both.
Both have good points going for them.
Search the threads and you'll find more opinions...
Found BG I online, new still boxed, good price.
good luck.

We've had quite a few threads on this lately... wonder if there is something in the water...
Anyway, the answer is a resounding "Yes!"
It's all very subjective, of course, but in my view the BG series is far superior to NWN and KOTR. It is much more story-driven and the NPCs have a lot more depth. It really depends on what you like though, if you prefer more of a combat-focused game you may want to look into IWD 1 and 2 instead.

I agree with BlueSky. While the games are dissimilar in some important respects, each has advantages that I think moves it to the front rank of RPGs of all time. Both are far superior to NWN or KotoR, in any case, though if you do get BG1, I would highly suggest you also download the BG1 NPC Project mod from the Pocket Plane Group site, giving yourself BG2-style party NPCs with interjections and plenty of characterful dialog. Several romances possible, too, if you're into that kind of thing, which I am not.
For that matter, download mods for both games from that site. You can really prolong and tailor the experience to your own desires; and then there's EasyTutu: a mod that adopts the BG2 engine to BG1, making the earlier title more fun to play.

Having played BG2 first, I struggled with BG1 purely because of the graphics engine (I don't go for fancy graphics, but I found it really hard going to such a low screen resolution as I felt I could hardly see any of the area at a time), but I loved the game. I never completed BG1 though until I installed EasyTutu and then I couldn't stop playing it. BG1 and BG2 are both great games, and both have their own qualities. I love the fact that you play all of BG1 with low level parties, and that you can carry it over to BG2 and work up to a high level party. Also, I'd strongly recommend Tales of the Sword Coast for BG1 and Throne of Bhaal for BG2 if you haven't already got them as they add even more to the games.
Personally, if I had a choice now I'd play BG1 first simply because I felt I ruined the story a bit in BG1 by playing BG2 first. As for which game is better, I used to say BG2, but now I honestly don't think I could choose so I'd just go for them both

Get both. They're better than Kotor and NWN2, games that I like by the way. They will give you many hours of fun, taking the many quests provided, enjoying the joinable npcs and playing different classes and races.

Play Baldurs Gate 1 first! And install the pocketplane mod fable mantioned and ofc you should but Tales of the Sword Coast as well. The story starts in BG1 and since this is an roleplaying game, you don't want do spoil the storyline. I started out with BG1 and I don't regret it, it's a fabulous game. BG1 has a special feeling to it, with excellent story and all. BG2 on the other hand is more rewarding when it comes to battles, gaining levels, tactics and such. At least that's what I think ^^

Due to your parentage you are an extremely gifted child, one of only a few in Faerun.
Unfortunately other similar gifted children have idea's of their own, mostly involving you not living very long.
It's up to you to stary alive long enough to figure out what's really going on.

I agree with the above and get both and play BG1 first. I played the whole series in order and my fondest video game memory is playing BG1, with BG2 a close second.
Since you played NWN1, playing BG1 might get a little frustrating if you are more into combat because you remain a very low level (max out at 8 or so) through the many hours of gameplay. Whereas, in NWN you can almost get to 20 in a fraction of the gameplay time. Of course, leveling is very slow in BG1.
I found BG1 and 2 to be quite different, with BG1 gameplay being more open and primitive.

I think that's an accurate assessment. The Bioware crew were openly admiring of PS:T when it came out, and stated later that BG2 benefited from the increased depth of party NPCs and of quests from Black Isle's title. BG1 (which I'm replaying at the moment) is more freeform, but the wilderness encounters are either randomized and repetitive, or juvenile one-step FedX quests.
Personally, though, I would still suggest getting both, and playing them through in order. Just my opinion.

This cool thread is stock full of opinions about BG1 compared to BG2:
http://www.gamebanshee.com/forums/baldu ... 80631.html
I recommend either one of two options:
1. Buy them both, and play them in order, like you would any great Saga, or
2. Sell your BG Virginity on eBay to the highest bidder.

Buy both, install TUTU/BG1NPC and play BG1 then BG2, this way you'll have one continous and consistent gaming experience, see the whole story from the start etc.

Since Drunkside has already indicated he's going to buy both games, keeping this thread open for opinions to convince him one way or the other is redundant. This thread is closed.
