There are three "official" ways and one "unofficial" way:

1a) A cleric in your party can cast Raise Dead (lvl 5 spell, does not raise elves) which restores the character to life with 1 HP.

1b) A cleric in your party can cast Resurrection (lvl 7 spell, works on elves), which restores the character to life with full HP.

2) You can pick up all your dead character's' items and find an NPC cleric to cast Raise Dead or Resurrection on your character.

3) You can buy or find and use a scroll of Raise Dead or Resurrection on your character; note that a scroll must be used in the same area in which the character died, but a memorized casting can be successfully cast in a different map.

The unofficial, and cheapest, way is to reload using a previous save.

You can't buy one on the docks, but there's a temple of Tempus just north of the main street in Targos proper. I believe one of the priests there should be able to help out.

Resurrection is expensive, especially at this stage of the game, so most players save often and reload rather than pay for it every time they lose a character.

If its not letting you get the npc cleric to cast raise dead or resurection then chances are you do not have enough gold to pay for it.

If you can't afford to raise dead or resurrect at the temple (yes, it is north of the Inn, close to the north gate; it looks kind of like a circus tent), you will have to reload.

A single-class cleric has to be at least lvl 9 to cast lvl 5 spells (Raise Dead) and at least lvl 13 to cast lvl 7 spells (Resurrection). You won't hit lvl 9 until at least Chapter 2.

you could ceat some gold into the game using the console. I forget the commands but you could probably find it with a google search??? Then buy the scroll or pay the healer to do it.

think you won't have the needed gold to do this, especially if more than one PC died! And your own clerics won't have there own spells until ~ chapter 4!

If someone died in the prologue use powerword reload, btw. if you have problems to get through the prologue, I would strongly recommend to rethink your tactics, party, and PC builds as this is by far the easiest part of the game, if you don't use the "Targos undead mod"!

You can just delete the dead characters and recreate them (or a better version). 1000 XP more or less won't matter on the long run, especially with the dynamic XP calculation.

i have killed troll thief in chapter 1 but 4 of my characters died. Can i ressurect them in chapter 1 because its immpossible to keep them all alive

You can resurrect at most stages of the game, but if you are asking if you can "carry" dead characters into chapter 1, I wouldn't recommend it.

I would certainly reload the troll fight if four characters died. It might also be worth analyzing your party and tactics if characters are dying in every map. It doesn't get too much easier, so you have to learn how to manage mass battles.

no, they don't!

Maybe you should just post your party here!

The formations are just there for party management really - I only switch them sometimes if when entering an area one of my weaker party members is exposed to attack. If that happens and I end up having to reload cos I lost the fight, I change the formation before trying again. Sometimes it can help but only when entering an area, it does nothing mid battle.
