Version and patches

I bought "Fallout 2: Reload." The cover of the jewel case as well as the menu screen both say version 1.02. The readme file says it's version 1.00. I think it's the US and not European . I've read the thread regarding the Den bug, and I'm trying to make sure my patches aren't redundant.
I'm guessing from other threads I want to hold off on the 1.04 and put in the 1.05. If I also put in the 1.02, will it mess with the game if it's actually a 1.02 version? I'm otherwise still getting the major bugs these patches are supposed to correct such as the Loyd freeze and the floating trunk.
On occasion the color also gets crazy during change in scenes, like during initiated dialogue where the shadows of any white color becomes blue. I've adjusted my display screen settings to a lower setting, and I've selected the Fallout2 program to have Win 95 compatability. (I've got a Win XP going on currently.)

This is brand new game? Then it should be already patched in 1.02, as it states in the menu screen. The readme file may be for the earlier version. So, I don't suggest to install 1.02, as it may do some nasty things on it...
Oh, and 1.02 doesn't fix nearly all the bugs it claims to fix...
One good example is the car, which is very bugged till version 1.05...

Does the problem occur even after changing the screen settings? Also, what amount of colors are you using? I could help to reduce the amount to 256...

Thank for the reply, Kipi. I currently re-loaded the game with only the 1.05 patch. So far so good. I'm not in the den yet, and the only thing I notice that's different is that when I'm in trapper town, (spoiler)I can get the key from the person instead of the dog. I can't find the dog at all in Klamath (unless he's always somewhere I can't see inside some building)(/spoiler).

I have the screen/color setting to the lowest possible, and the color white still gets wacky on occasion. Sometimes it happens frequently, and sometimes it won't happen at all if I play for an hour or so when I get home from work.
I have now been to the Den, thoroughly. I have also left the Den repeatedly to go to Vault City and to Modoc and returned okay. I've had every quest I'm aware of work for me perfectly. I think chucking patch 1.02 and 1.04 did it, and so for now I just have 1.05 (and the Holy Hand Grenade) patch.
I was also curious about mod'ing, but I want to wait until the curent character runs the course.

What video card you have? I think this could be related to your videocard.

Yeah, looks like 1.04 and 1.05 aren't that compatible with each other...
Still, it's rather strange that at least last time when I played, the game worked fine with both of those...

Just my suggestion, but you should probably beat the game at least twice before turning to any mod. The reason why I suggest at least two games is that you just can't do and find everything at the first time you play the game...

I have a tiny cube no bigger than my thumb on my motherboard. Last time I checked, it just had a serial number on it, but nothing else discernable. One of those wish list items that are at the bottom of my current priorities to improve.
