Hey all. Just installed BG2 again after deleting it months ago, gonna go get ToB today. About the only class i never played or solo'd with was the assassin. I'm gonna go thru solo with one, so i just wanted a couple tips from experienced assassin players.

1: What are the better backstab weapons?
2: Worth putting any points at all in anything except hide in shadows and move silently? (can avoid most traps, i know the game back to front and upside down)
3: is it a satisfying class to finish the game solo with? You know because some classes, like the monk, are just plain cheesy as they get to higher levels, and only fun for power gamer or really serious player.

thx

all thieving classes become insanely powerful due to the use any item ability: unlimited armor, weapons, spell scrolls, wands, class specific items such as carsomyr...

Bards, too? In other words, Haer'dalis with fantastic armor and a godlike weapon? Haer'dalis with an armor-induced -13 AC, in an offensive spin? Gods....

obviously your better backstab weapons are things with a speed factor of Zero, and of course whatever you are most proficient at.
if you are soloing, i think find traps is pretty important, none mistake, and poof! reload. there are soem nasty traps in TOB, like maze and such, here if it hits your main guy - game over.
i really like detect illusion since it dispells mages' various spells like project image and mislead, and thieves and assassins who are hiding waiting to kill you with a backstab.
some of the nastier opponents may require a bit of cheese and setting traps early, so that's somethign to consider putting sufficient amounts of points in.

I found the best backstabbing weapons in SoA to be short sword, katanna, and quarterstaff, due to their low speed factors. Of these, the best are Kundane +2, Cutthroat, Celestial Fury, and the Staff of Striking. In ToB, there are some good weapons in the long sword and scimitar categories, too. The uber-backstabbing weapon, though, is that really nice quarterstaff Cespenar upgrades for you.

I always put points into trap-setting, since higher-level traps are capable of killing even the tougher golems, which can't be back-stabbed.

speed factor determines when a second hit will occur withina round if you have more than one attack per round. for backstabbing, even if your first one misses, until you become visible, your next attack can still backstab.
