Can anyone explain how to use alchemy?

You pick up an unidentified potion and if the character who has high enough alchemy skill has it in his inventory it's identified automatically.
There are also some points in the game where high alchemy skill offers a new option and the "envenom weapon" feat requires alchemy.

I think you need to right click on the unidentified potion.

Yup, need to right click the potion to identify it...

well, that totaly depends on your mouse setting...
