An opinion on TotSC please

I'm a BGII veteran and essentially want an opinion on TotSC expansion.
Is it worth it ?? would I miss anything really critical with that expansion ?? I fully intend to play it with tutu on the BGII engine and rules. I want to make a Sorceror all the way through :D .

I've gone on ebay and I can get Baldurs Gate I shipped to me on dvd for less than 10$ (DVD for 0.99 pounds + 3 pound shipping overseas :D ) but TotSC cannot be bought by itself. I can get BG I + TotSC on God knows how many CD's for about 20$-30$, which is expensive for a 1998 game, or the whole set BGI + II + expansions for about 30-40$ (after shipping).

I'd like to avoid excessive CD's since their annoying and would rather have the DVD cheap, but on the other hand I don't know how much I'm missing if I just skip the expansion. Opinions anybody ??

Thx in advance - Jedi

Tales of the Sword Coast just adds a higher xp cap, a few new items and some extra quests with extra areas. Its a lot of fun, and just enhances the BG experience, but you can quite easily enjoy BG1 without it. I would recommend getting it, but it doesn't add anything critical to the game as the new areas have their own mini-stories and are not part of the main storyline of the game.

TotSC also changes some engine features that might make things easier (and more like BG2).

For example without ToTSC your mage will only have 1 weapon slot, with TotSC he will have 2.

I believe it is TotSC that also adds the ability to highlight containers using Tab.

There are other features I can't recall just at the moment. Do a search for the Readme for more info.

Edit: if you are playing with Tutu all engine features will be that of BG2. Just check if Tutu works fine on a BG1 install without TotSC.

It should work with or without TotSC.

I guess I'll pony up the extra 10$ and get TotSC then. The general consensus seems to be that the expansion is worth it, so I'll give it a shot. :) thx for the opinions
