How an earth do you kill this thing? I've tried the suggestion of summoning creatures but they aren't even allowed 1 second to live he then cast that obiliteration spell or whatever & wipes me clean. Also I've tried all means of removing his spell protections with no luck. What gives. This is really starting to piss me off.

If you're talking about the demi-lich in Watcher's Keep, he's immune to practically everything except +4 weapons or better. First, you do not have to take the entire party into his room, so leave unprotected party members outside.

Strategies for taking him down include:
  • Mage/bard protected with Spell Immunity: Abjuration, Death Ward, and/or Spell Trap slinging Melf's Minute Meteors at him - use Ring of the Ram to soften him up
  • Fighter/ranger/paladin protected with Protection from Magic scroll hacking him to death with weapon of choice (+4 or better)
  • Berserker protected with Enrage ability hacking him to death
  • PC using Slayer form

Easily done. Aerie with Crom Faer, and 2-3 spell immunities(vs abjuration). Happy whacking! :)

This isn't working either. I stopped travelling w/her at the end of BG II & she isn't high enough level (although she's pretty high, level 15 or so) to hit him consistently. I score a few hits but by the time I could kill him me spell immunity wears off. By the time I cast another I'm dead. I also sent Nalia in protected w/spell imunity & it wipes her clean immediately. Haven't the faintest idea why. This is pissing me off so much I fell like snapping the disk right in half.

Finally killed him. Just when I suspected that my immunity might be wearing off I'd just cast another. Having Nalia there helped a little w/that long sword that raises her strength to 22. Man those MU are pitiful at melee.

Possibly you should have sent either nalia or aerie in with potions of strength or a belt of strength. I suspect that to hit is most influenced by strength and not logically by dex like you would think. so by raising strength on those two you should get better to hit ratios.

and by far the best weapon for liches for aerie, I've often sent her alone on lich whacking missions, is mace of disruption +2. I've always taken down demi liches using scrolls and holy avenger, however I plan to have little sweetie take a whack with the watch tower demi lich using spell immunity.

dex affects ac...curiously enough. this is why I always give keldorn gauntlets of dexterity and belt of str.

anyway little aerie went up alone aginst the lich in the asylum, with harmony shield and spell turning, and it took about seven whacks but disposed of it.

People tend to consider viconia a better cleric than aerie because she is multi, however she is by far the best npc for magic heavy partys.

You can indeed spell sequece certain cleric spells, and a burst of holy smite can settle many undead and demonic enemies at once, and i've killed major demons sequencing 3 bolts of glory in a spell trigger.

I never take along a major cleric like viconia or anomen, because I can't stand that smug ass anomen and I run a good aligned party. Though I've been exploring the dialogs in TOB using the cntrl-I trick and viccy is a riot.

this does mean though I'll have to drop keldorn, and lose holy avenger. This is preferable, however to viccy turning him by accident in a area filled with undead. but I do like viccys dialogs and her ability at high levels to turn most of a room full of vampires into your allies. Major undead in this expansion pack, from what I gather. and yes, even in a good party viccy won't be a major shrew (you know which word I want) but is rather funny.

Just two points of clarification:

1. Neither Nalia nor Aerie can use potions of giant strength (potions of regular 18 strength is the best they can do). As such if you want them to melee, it is almost always better to use items to pump up their str rather than potions.

2. Melee is determined solely by Str. Dex has no role which is probably why Aerie was having such a tough go at it.

She had a 25 strength b/c she was weilding Crom Fayr! Nalia's strength was 22 w/that sword! The base to hit is just pathetic for MUs. Plus I dumped Aerie for Sarevok at the begining of TOB so she hasn't benefited from my last few level jumps.
