I am new to this kind of RPG (I've been playin diablo 2 and LoD) and I am gonna throw out a question for you experts
---What is the best custom made team of 6 people for BG2? What characters/kits?
Just give me their name like kinsei, beserker, etc. All 6, best team, reply now.
oh, and back up why you think that way.

Just look in the strategy section for lists of the perfect party in SOA.

Definately a team of 6 bards --
I'd say 4 skalds and 2 blades.
Have the 4 skalds singing their stackable bard songs and have the dual-wielding blades chopping and chopping. And always hitting. And never being hit.
Every once in a while have them all shoot off 6 skull traps simultaneously just for fun.
This is both enjoyable, stupid, ridiculous, and insanely powerful.
I bet y'all KNEW I was going to say that, didn't you??????????

I need to place a call for the cheese guild. using some rather evil cheese techs, my personal fav with standard npc's are
hacked sorc (as many spells as mage but sorc, inanely powerful)
viccy
jahiera
aerie
imoen/yoshimo
korgan.
this party takes advantage of the stacked armors of faith. the 3 girly girls are setup to cast multiple armor of fiath befoer major brawls and whack the monsters slowly and with ease.
The hacked sorc is desined to allow 7 dragon breaths and summon 20 planetars using project image. Demogorgon only took 5 to defeat
Imoen because of sentimental reasons, korgan for his funny outlook on life.
Hit the asylum fairly early to geet slayer transform to keep rep low.
Super deformed hacked party.
Using Shadow keeper you cna create a mutated party, however I have no idea how they will import into TOB later, so i have not had the nerve to try it. but htis would be possible
sorc (I love sorcery and my hacked sorc does import into tob)
jahiera---totemic druid/fighter
viccy---cleric of talos
aerie---conjuror/cleric
Why? You get extra spells as specialty mage and you miss out in divination. guess what, the two important spells in divination is true sight and farsight, and you get those as cleric
Korgan---PALADIN!!! for fun!
imoen---assassin/mage
think use any item, spike traps and
POISONED energy blades and poisoned melf magic meteors.. also think poisoned black blade of disaster...gram the sword of grief, anyone?
Anyway, this would be my funniest party, since I will never create power parties where I create all the characters. you lose out in too much fun npc interaction that way.
Yep, its ok to create custom chars and even with legit multiclasses and such you can create god parties, however IMHO you lose 90% of the fun of walking around amn with a bunch of total lunatics that way.

1. sorc as protagonist (for FF)-elf (dex is good for AC)
2. half-orc fighter
3. elf theif
4. half-elf fighter\cleric (or human cleric)
5. human paladin (for lay on hands, does 80HP of healing at lvl40)
whoever (someone for a romance, maybe?)

Check out Gamebanshee's list.
A good party:
Half-Orc Kensai
Dwarf Bezerker
Half-Elf ranger/cleric
Elf- archer
elf-soceror
gnome-thief illusionist.
You can make the archer and soceror humans but elves get +1 to dex, and they aren't going to be in the front lines so -1 to con doesn't matter.

I have played single-player to get all of the NPC interaction, but I also like writing my own story, with my characters.
My favorite custom multi-player group so far for balance, roleplay, and power:
1. Cavalier -- no missile weapons, but you can throw axes
2. Swashbuckler -- I used this kit to create a quasi-ninja. No backstab, but he gets +1 to hit, +1 damage, and -1 to AC every 5 levels. With an 18 dex, at 40th level, naked and unarmed, he gets +8 to hit, +8 damage, and an AC of -2.
3. Half-orc Fighter/Cleric -- Awesome with Flail of the Ages and Crom Faer!
4. Dual class Fighter/Mage -- dual him at level 9 or 10. I did it just for the hit points, but he's also a missile weapon backup.
5.Archer -- half-elf for the bonus with swords and bows, but no elven strength and constitution penalty.
6. Jaheira -- the romance is a challenge (I failed) and, after nuetralizing enemy mages with insect swarm, she can fight like a tank.

I don't believe anything could touch the following party:
1) Protagonist: Human Kensai dual 9(13)/Mage. You get the items from the mage stronghold and the tear rewards are much more useful to a tank than a sorcerer. Wield the katanas
2) Elf Sorcerer. Use the Staff of the Magi. Main spellcaster
3) Human dual Ranger lvl 9/Cleric. With Draw upon Holy Might, you are better giving Crom to your thief's off hand. Use flails and clubs. You get druid spells, also
4) Human dual Kensai lvl 9/Thief. Traps, backtab with crom in off hand, use any item (no Kensai restrictions)
5) Human Inquisitor. Serves as a party leader, Carsomyr-wielder and very good warrior.
6) Elven Archer. Major ranged assault. Short bows
You propably won't need the archer and could take a Blade instead.

This (not special) party was used in BGI:
1. Human Invoker PC
2. Human Paladin
3. Human Ranger
4. Dwarf Fighter/Thief
5. Human Cleric
6. Human Thief
After dual-classing them in BGII it's become to a really powerful group:
1. Invoker (Level 9) /Fighter : Long Bow, Staff of Mage
2. Undead Hunter : Carsomyr
3. Ranger (Level 8) /Cleric : Flail of Ages + Crom Faeyr
4. Dwarf Fighter/Thief : Celestial Fury, Dwarven Thrower
5. Priest of Lathender (Level 9) /Mage : Sling, Robe of Vecna
6. Swashbuckler/Mage : 2 Katanas
The first character is usually used as an archer, but in few battles his spells are useful. The Dwarf Fighter/Thief is the backstabber, and the Cleric/Mage casts both spells very fast.

Also nice that you can use shields and helmets. Get some nice bonuses and immunities that way. I say dual at 10 - with 18 con your mage STARTS with 140 HP
when you cast tensor's you have 300+ HP. (insert movie of Cartman saying "sweet")

Very cool, but I like the robe of Vecna for the
faster caster.
Plus, IIRC, you still can't cast spells while in armor.
Please correct me if I'm wrong....

Hmm.
The Uber Project:
-Kensai Thief dualed @ lvl 15
-Fighter Cleric dualed @ 12 ( I think...)
-Kensai Mage dualed @ lvl 8 (still gets to lvl 40 so its like having a full mage who can use katanas)
-Monk (anti magic)
-Archer
-Bard (I have a blade but a skald would work wonders as well)
This is insanely powerful if you can get good equipment. Lots of them have high masteries in multiple weapons and those that don't can hit with spells.
They all are human except for the bard which is half-elf and the elven ranger.
Its a kickass team.

Trams set up is very good , there are just 2 changes i would make .
Id make #4 a wizard slayer dueled to theif instead of kensia to theif, the use any item skill actually benifits a wizard slayer more than a kensia IMO.
Also for the archer its hard to pass up crossbows, because extremely early in the game(as soon as you get 14k) you can go to watchers keep and buy the firetooth +4 that doesnt need ammo. You dont have to attempt watchers keep till later but you can still buy the crossbow, it does a ton of damage too.
My two cents.

That's a good point about the Firetooth - hadn't thought of going and getting it early (actually i think i just forgot where i got it
)
People have made the point that crossbows have a slow rate of fire. I have used them mainly if I have Keldorn in the party because of his proficiency (he is a good shot IF he has the gauntlets of DEX). The firetooth +4 would be handy early in the game for killing trolls.
I was in a fight last night, and Keldorn used a grtr whirlwind to attack someone Hand to Hand. He did a lot of damage in the first few hits, and the enemy went yellow and started to run away. I switched Keldorn over to the Firetooth and he hit the fleeing enemy with about 5 bolts in the few remaining seconds of his whirlwind, exploding them! The morale? Crossbows don't have a low rate of fire during a whirlwind attack

Also, one note to Saigo: a fighter/mage can't cast in "Armor" BUT they can cast while wearing a helmet and carrying a shield (and they can wear the robe of vecna, and I recommend it)...Someone who I haven't seen posting on this board in while said that this was not true in PnP and got a little upset about it, but I assure you it is in the game.
Similarly, a fighter/ or cleric/thief can detect and disarm traps while wearing a helmet and carrying a shield.

Good to know. Incidentally, when my group played PnP, we allowed multi-class thieves and spellcasters to wear elven or magic
chain mail, figuring it was so light and unencumbering (is that a word?) that it couldn't interfere with either class.
I have more trouble with the sheild use than with chain mail. But how would a helmet inhibit anything?
BTW, a shield
does prohibit use of bows and staves, two things that are essential to my character.

My party is the BEST!(becouse is mine)
ME:human Kensai dualed at lev 9 to a Mage(super upper)
:Iquisitor(leader and the best(holy avenger))
:human Ranger dualed at lev 9 to a Cleric(both gen spell and a exelent fighter(dual weapon)
:Monk(I love this guy and I have my reason)
:human Wizard Slayer dualed at lev 9(12??!)to a thief(in TOB is very good(I hope!))
Is the best(my opinion!) but isn't so fun withouth NPC(BOO!!!I miss him!)
