Shadow Thief of Amn (worth the trouble?)

High there.
First of all, I'm still in Act I, so please, pleeeease no spoilers.

Has anyone bothered playing a Shadow Thief of Amn? If you are a powerplayer, you propably wouldn't, because it sucks. And even if you like the type, there's not much in the Shadow Thief's abilities that you can't get with a nice rogue build. (Or so I gather. I haven't played one, hence the thread...)

But, it could be offering a plot hook. If not necessarily connected to bonus quests and XPs, at least some more interaction, choices etc. So the big question is: does it?

And what about this "Special: Member of the Shadow Thieves of Amn" requirement? First of all, does it mean that even if you meet all the others requirements (skills and feats), you will NOT be able to become one until you meet your recruiter somewhere in the game? In fact, will you ever meet the Shadow Thieves in NWN2? And if so, and you happen to become one, will this prove worth your trouble, story-wise?

If someone could answer those questions for me without spoilers, it would be VERY helpful. Because if all you get from the Shadow Thief are the standard class features, I'll definitely pass and not waste a perfectly usable feat to Stealthy. Or any skill points to Intimidate, for that matter...
Thanx. :)

Honestly I've never played as a Shadow Thief though i believe i know some of the answers to the questions you have. Yes eventually you will meet a shadow thief recruiter though im not telling you where. I'm just telling you to pick the obvious path. Once you are recruited then you will be able to choose the shadow thief class. As far as i know, the class doesn't offer any story plots as obsidian tried to stay away from class specific plots. So yeah it's just a standard class, as far as i know, with just a couple of bonuses. So its mostly up to you, hope this helped.

Agreed, plus by the time you qualify you won't have much opportunity to level up high enough to make it worth it even if you like the class.

My two cents.

I've seen SToA in some of the powergaming builds in the builders guild I am a part of. I think it is taken for some of the features such as uncanny dodge, rogue skill access (able learner anyone) while allowing you to gain feats.

I even saw a build that was maxing out the feint skill so it would work in PVP (spot usually makes that impossible) and they took some SToA for the bonus to bluff, I think.

But your right its not a typical powergame class like cleric or RDD.

In the NWN2 OC, there are very few bonus quests and perks you can gain by becoming a certain class. But I don't think the Shadow Thief is included in that group.

Like I stated above, class doesn't necessarily give unique quest perks. What you will need is just to be recruited as a Shadow Theif (taking class levels isn't necessary) and you will be able to access any branching quests, should there be any. Hope that is not too cryptic, as I am trying to minimalise the spoilers.

You can become a Shadow Thief of Amn. You chose to help thiefs not NWN guards ( 2 ways to enter the city ). If you help Thiefs you can become Shadow Thief if you help Guards you can become NWN Seven
