Murder and the Dark Brotherhood Blade (SPOILER)

Post by Siberys »

Mmmk, apparently bethesda considers many things murder in the game that really aren't as bad as some other versions, and they also make it so you can't deny the dark brotherhood speaker once he tries to give you the blade of woe.

Example, in shivering isles, I recently was given a quest to kill someone as a mercy killing, the quest giver himself wanted to die because of the madness that he's had to deal with. So, I kill him, as a mercy killing because he's begging me.

This is still a murder of sorts, BUT it's definitely not as bad as just randomly killing someone I don't know, like the "Cold blooded killer" DB thinks me to be at the first murder.

So does anybody know a decent mod that will just get rid of this crap? Like will it allow me to deny the dark brotherhood speaker or to be able to drop the blade of woe? I'm so sick of the dark brotherhood interfering with me and the only way I've seen that works without modding is to kill the speaker, but I don't want to have more murders and crap. It's annoying as hell pardon my french.
Listen up maggots, Mr. Popo's 'bout to teach you the pecking order.
It goes you, the dirt, the worms inside of the dirt, Popo's stool, Kami, then Popo.

After murdering someone, after sleeping in safe location, Lucien Lachance will contact you. When this happens you are given various dialogue options, one of these is “But I am not a murderer.” Lucien will be surprised about what you’ve said, however, saying it will not cancel the option to play through the Dark Brotherhood from you, you will still get the blade and the quest, but you’ll become a member of the Brotherhood only after you finish that quest. So to avoid the Brotherhood, you only have to ignore them and you'll never hear of them again.

And if you really want to get rid of the blade, there is indeed a mod that will allow you to drop quest items. You can find it here: The Elder Scrolls Source - Oblivion Modifications and Plugins

Humph, if the person you killed was Hirrus Clutumnus, there might be a way, he tends to climb the stairs of the palace during the evenings; so perhaps you could push him down during one of those evenings. It won’t give you a bounty. But I am not sure if doing so will be considered as a murder in the eyes of the Brotherhood, after all of my Oblivion characters have been in a one way or another, members of the Brotherhood so I cannot tell.

Actually

There is an easier way to do this. While in the game, open up your console, and type "SetQuestObject 00022BA8 0"

This will cause the Blade of Woe to be a normal, non-quest related item, meaning it can be dropped. It should be noted, however, that this causes it to weigh 1 pound

This can be done with other quest items as well, such as the arrow key the thieves quest, if you pick it back up.

(lol I'm a nub, didn't look at the post date for this...)
