Crom Faeyr (??) - Worth it?

I couldn't find any posts concerning CF at all, but I kind of doubt that no one have made a post about it so just link it if there is one earlier.
Anyway, I'll make it short: Is Crom Faeyr worth all the regs you spend on it?
Goes without saying that it depends on if you are proficient with it or not but, if the choice was putting points in flails and using FoA instead and keep the regs.
*Edited some misspelling

Yes, if not your PC, then some one in your party should wield Crommy. It gives the character insane THAC0 because of the strength boost to 25. Whoever wields aberCrombie & Faeyr can hit anything. If you really like flails, then just have the character duel wield. Crom + FOA is a powerful combination.

I've gone both ways in the past. Crom Faeyr is undoubtedly a very powerful weapon, but if you're playing a full 6 man party, the items may be more valuable to you used separately.

I think it's worth making it in most cases. It's a very powerful weapon and there really isn't any other easy way to get that high a strenth. Except Black Razor I suppose...
But I also agree with Klorox: In some cases I'd probably rather have the two strength enhancing items than one.

I always make it - I've even equipped Aerie with it before while I didn't need to use it just so she can carry loads of weight  Its one of my favourite weapons in the game and I often pass it from one party member to another to suit different situations.

Yeah, its worth it. In my opinion at least...

Its one of the best hammers in the game. I usually give it to Aerie to increase her strength to carry more in her inventory. Plus it does good damage against golems.

Hmmm...!
This weapon sounds intriguing. As I am still fairly new to the game (had it for a while, but lack of playing time), what IS this weapon, and where does my main character find it?:mischief:

The dwarf in the docks district can build it for you once you collect the right items. Its either a +4 or +5 warhammer and gives the wielder strength of 25
The next bit is a slight spoiler so highlight to read it:
I cannot remember all the items but I do know you need a scroll that you get if you kill Lord Firkraag

I remember the whole thing by heart.
Cromwell forges Crom Faeyr with these items. (highlight the area after the items for spoilers on their locations.
- Crom Faeyr scroll
(loot from the Shadow Dragon in the shade dungeon)
.
- Hammer of Thunderbolts
(loot from the final room in the Mind Flayer area in the sewers underneath the Temple District)
.
- Gauntlets of Ogre Power
(loot from a cannibalistic halfling in the Planar Sphere by the Golem Creation Room)
.
- Girdle of Frost Giant Strength
(loot from the demons summoned by the sacrifice altar in the exit area of the Underdark)
.
You also have to pay 10,000 gp for creating it.
Fact: In 3.5 Edition Dungeons and Dragons, the Hammer of Thunderbolts is listed in the Dungeon Master's Guide as an artifact that has powers comparable to Crom Faeyr if it is equipped alongside a pair of Gauntlets of Ogre Power and a Belt of Giant Strength.

You're kidding.
I can't count the number of posts I've read that extol the superiority of characters who dual wield Crom Faeyr and Celestial Fury (especially Kensai/Mages). It's just as legendary as Carsomyr and a lot less restrictive (e.g., you don't have to be a Paladin and you can dual wield it). Before Throne of Bhaal came out, it was a hands-down favorite. Back in those days, golems seemed quite challenging, and the insta-kill feature was quite welcome. If you're an experienced player, you don't really need our advice about weapon preferences. But if you're new to the game, I'd be surprised if you're not as impressed by Crom Faeyr as most of us were when we first got our hands on it.

It all depends on how many tank you have in your party. My Parties usually have 2-3 tanks and therefore the CF is well worth it. However if you play with 5-6 tanks that can optionally cast a bit, Then you may be better of not making it. Giving it to someone like Aerie is a complete waste though since she can only ever have 2 APR.

Yeah, you want the hammer, well, if you're going to fight physically at least.
A correction to mr_sir's post (spoilers):
The scroll isn't found on Firkgraag but rather on the Shadow Dragon within the Umar Hills.
Might as well let you know of the others:
The girdle can be found in the Underdark, from fighting Cambions which are summed after offering a sacrifice. The gauntlets are received from a bloodthirsty halfling within the Planar Sphere at the Slums district and the hammer can be found in a small Mindflayer dungeon in the Temple District sewers, however, you need a key to get there, which is found at Windspear Hills, on Tazok's corpse... or the Orog next to him.

Crom Faeys is one of the reasons you want to play SoA before ToB, because it truly is one of the best offhands in the game. Since SoA ending and Fire Girdle gives your protagonist 24 strenght, it's maybe not the most attractive weapon anymore, but any dualwielder will be happy to have Crom in offhand.
So yeah, in the case you don't solo, it's kinda worth it. Not that big of a deal to get anyway.

Thrifalas, are you saying bonuses from Machine of Lum and the evil options in hell stack on top of belts ?? I always thought this wasn't the case but if so thanks for that little piece of info it will come in handy for sure

Crom Faeyr is definitely worth making - I can however see why you might want to keep the individual parts with some party arrangements.
The 25 strength bonus makes it a blatant tool of asskickery. Dual wielding it with Celestial Fury is amazing. If only humans could have 3 arms, I think my char would have the Flail of Ages too.

There is a really cheesy way to get Crom Faeyr *and keep the items*
After beating Firkraag, I took his scales to Cromwell to forge the armor but when I arrived at the docks a group of smugglers attacked me. I thought, who cares? I don't want to waste my time fighting those boring guys, let's just ignore them! I entered Cromwell's home and asked him to forge the armor. What did those stupid rogues do? They followed me in! So, while Cromwell was smashing his freaky hammer on the air, the smugglers were smashing Edwin (grrr...) and I could do nothing because I didn't have any control of the game (double grr...). Of course they killed Edwin and I was just about to restart the game when I thought: <>. That's what I did, when Cromwell finished, after killing them, I made my new Edwin re-collect his stuffs...
But what is it? Red scales were still there (Edwin carried them before the ambush) so I had a red scales armor and red scales! So I told Cromwell to make another!
Cromwell takes your scales away only after he finishes his work and not when he begins.
Of course this method works with EVERY artifacts Cromwell can forge. So if you are disappointed because you have to give up the girdle of frost giants to make the Crom Fayer, just kill and resurrect your player who carries the artifacts and that's it! (I used Harper's call because it costs nothing and doesn't make you lose 1 point of CNS). Oh, you should attack someone who has few HP, otherwise you just risk to injure him and nothing else... and your stuff is are gone.
So this is my procedure:
1 - make someone attack your "carrier" before talking to Cromwell
2 - talk to Cromwell and have him forge your artifact
3 - watch...
4 - resurrect and recollect!
It's a more interesting method than using ShadowKeeper to recreate the items in your inventory, but it's definitely major cheating, and I mention it for information purposes only

When I first started playing the series, I would try and get it every time...but after many, many
playthroughs I find that trying other methods, weapons and ways of doing things more interesting...for example the pantaloons quest was only good for a laugh after finally getting all the pieces.

I usually play Solo, and a wizard, so I do not assemble the weapon - it is best for me if I simply use the girdle. However, recently I played a no-reload-fighter/mage/thief - and believe me, backstabbing with the hammer in off-hand is something worth seeing. And in my other strategy - Timestop+go for the dragon(both the black one and the green one in the abyss) - only thanx to the strength of Crom Faeyr was I able to kill the beasts and still had 2 turns after my second Time stop.
