Marauder Class Question

Is it possible to obtain Heavy Armor and Heavy Weapons through the Marauder class? I ask this because Gamebanshe's class area shows that the Marauder class allows for Heavy Weapons as a new skill, but doesn't mention the other two, yet the Deathlord's class info on the same site states that its new skills are Heavy Armor & Heavy Shield, which seems to indicate that the answer is no, however; it would be impossible to ascend to the Deathlord class via Marauder solely without these skills, since the Deathlord class requires 10 to Heavy Weapons, Armor & Shield....so wouldn't the Marauder class have to give you access to these three skills since they are required for Deathlord or is it expected that you have to obtain these from another class? Again the site did say you got Heavy weapons, just not Heavy Armor and Heavy Shield as a Marauder, as these are both under Deathlord, which has to have them in order to ascend. The bonus would be of little help at this point too, since its doubtful you would raise Heavy Armor & Heavy Shield much above 12, and then only if you want to wear the higher armors and need to because you don't want the small penalties.

Could someone out there in the forums help me puzzle this out?

Thanks,

The Marauder Class gives you heavy weapons, heavy armor and heavy shields.

A Dungeon Lords planner application is available at:
Dungeon Lords Information Warehouse
It's a spreadsheet type of app that lets you see how different class progressions
shape up. Only error I've found in it is that heavy weapon is listed for samurai,
which isn't true in patch level 1.4 of the game.

It is also true for the collector's edition as well. Hatamoto gets heavy weapons, not samurai.

The information warehouse is a very good resource (I bookmarked it) but there was another error I noticed there as well. The author suggests a class combo consisting of monk and shugenja, which is impossible as only one Eastern house path may be followed.

To wear Deathlord plate one needs a skill of 12 in heavy armor, so you are correct jparm3rd, that it is of little benefit to raising the skill higher than that. Maybe the class description for Marauder needs to be corrected here, because it is confusing to list heavy weapons as the only new skill when heavy armor and shields is also included. :)

I second the motion on updating the description here for Marauder.

I ran a Adept/Fighter/Marauder/Monk/Shaolei-Master character for awhile with the marauder class included specifically as a fall-back insurance policy in case ninjitsu didn't work out. Actually, no matter what classes I try out, either samurai/marauder as second tier or hatamoto/ninja-lord as third tier seem to sneak in. My characters always take great comfort in their ability to dual-wield if all else fails. :)

Thanks everyone for your responses. That's what I love about this forum: There's a lot of great people out there willing to help their fellow DLers without flaming them to here and back when they ask a question they should know or get lost.

I was trying to do exactly that Skidder: Create a character that had access to better armor and the dual wield skill as a back-up for ninjitsu. I've been wanting to experiment with that skill. I've heard on these forums that hands/feet are not as good as a weapon so I'd like backup if I find out that's so and would like to see the animations when I get the extra moves. I've also kinda decided that in most cases the Samurai is a good martial fit if I willing to wait until I've got the egg and the armor, since it too gives dual wield--I've found I prefer Light weapons to Medium ones--my Kama of the Void is just simply too good. :D So when I was fooling around with planning my new characters, the question came up as to what skills were obtained when. I too, find myself gravitating toward certain classes, like Paladin or Marauder because they are so helpful in filling skill gaps. Even through I've used both characters, I couldn't for the life of me remember what the Marauder got and when and so turned to GB for help. Thanks too for the Info Warehouse-that's a great site and I didn't know of its existance until you posted the link :)

Kath--you are absolutely correct--I was thinking specifically of the DL plate when I wrote that so you must be a mind-reader, :mischief: but couldn't remember its name-only that I needed at least 12 in HA to use it or be willing to run around with penalties--so thanks for reminding me of the name. I also think there's another armor too that requires an 11 to use without penalties, but the good memory is failing me there as well.

I too vote for fixing the info on Marauder. Who do we post to do that & where? A mod? SWCarter?

Anyhow--thanks to both of you!

Well, not so much with the mindreading. ;) It stuck in my head when I had a character go for deathlord. She got a lot of bonuses for armor, so it wasn't too bad to get to 10 for the requirement, but then when deathlord guy (the one you have to fight to get the class) drops the plate, I was sort of like "oh great, still can't wear it"  I think the Guilded plate might be the one you are thinking of...Crimson Plate and Black plate also require a fairly high skill level to wear too.
