I'm really starting to get my feet wet in SI and it is lots of fun. So far I have gotten Dawnfang/Duskfang and I really like it; also I had a Greater Bow of Madness made and got some magic arrows out of the deal that do like, (-17 damage to health . . . . when I fire those with my VoltViper sparkbow (+25 shock damage) in sneak attack mode, I think it will pretty well RULE! I need to return to Cyrodil and close another Oblivion Gate so I can enchant my bow of Madness. But I am very early in the game yet. How good do these weapons get????

well u do know that after 12 kills, dawnfang/duskfang change to dawnfang superior/duskfangsuperior right. well right now im only at lv. 29 and my dawn/duskfang are at 24, stronger than my umbra, but the perfect madness sword you can hae made for you is at 26 to me, so no matter wut lv. you are the madness sword is stronger than the dawn/duskfang, dont know about the amber sword yet though

When i got Duskfang/Dawnfang it did equal damage to the madness sword and the amber sword (not including frost or fire damage) I'm not sure if it changes with your level though I was about level 40 when I got it and an expert of Blade

The BEST shivering isles weapon

I actualy just completed the shivering isles story line today and i felt like bragging so here i am. any way the best weapon in the shivering isles and posibly the hole game is the staff of sheogorath. you dont get this until after completeing the shivering isles story but the staff is increduoisly powerful, it stop time and temporarily "knocks out" the few selected targets. i used it once and i had taken i liking to it, i truly did feel like the madgod :?
There large drawback to this weapon is that its charge is 20,000 and up to like 10 uses or 20 cant remember. being the madgod does also grant a weather changing power and a dancer at your throne "kinda nice to say the least" also by doing the main story thoraly through i colected a almost full set of amber and madness set of armor and weapons, in adition to most of the matrices and enough amber and madness ore to fill them all. also you get an interesting weapon called nerve shatter..er its a war hammer or claymore that does base of around 20 at lvl 18 and a magic enchantment that weakens there shock resistance 41% and does like 21 shock dmg i think.
BlESsInGS OF ThE MADGoD

BY god that is hard to choose...

Nerve shatter?
Dusk/Dawn Fang?
Shadowrend? [I figured out that I could pick it up after I killed the shadow, that was a year after I bought the shivering isles :D ]

I really don't know. Maybe a staff that you get?

About the shadow.

I just thought that, when you fight it, if you take off all your armor before fighting it, wouldn't your shadow have no defense? You could just equip the armor right after it appears. Would this work?

Well accroding to my guidebook, it "takes a snapshot of you" as you enter the Grove of Reflection, so I suppose that, yes, if you take off your armor before entering the Grove he won't have any armor on. Don't hold me to this though, as the guide book wasn't very clear on this. Even without the armor, he is just as strong as you and has twice the HP, but at least he only has half of your speed.

Still, if you do do that then you will have a much easier time of it (supposing this works). If anyone has an old save and wouldn't mind checking it out I would appreciate it. Still, giving the shadow no armor kinda kills the point of it. It's like getting full reflect damage armor, or purposfully gimping the second gatekeeper so he's easy to kill. What's the fun in that?

Well, as Darth said, it pretty much mimics your looks and it's strengths are based off yours. However it is still an NPC, and I'm rather sure what you do or don't wear won't affect how easy it is to kill it unless of course what you're wearing is enchanted for said stats. Unless it's based off your base stats, then it wouldn't matter. I'm fairly sure I've tried this after my second run through of SI and it didn't make a difference with me.

No reflect damage

the best sword you can get is definatly the shadow rend

but if you have anything that has a reflect damage on when you enter to fight him/her you will almost die

i had the eustachian of chorrol on with full health (around 250 or so) and came out with half health

On that note I actually finished that quest for the hundreth time recently and I didn't recieve any weapon at all. My memory was foggy on this but I was pretty certain you recieved something. Do you have to loot the body or is the weapon just laying there. Game wouldn't let me loot him. And I saw no weapon. I'm going to replay it soon.

I assume it is shadowrend you are talking about; your mirror should drop the sword when she dies, if it is equipped when she dies that is. If it is sheathed for any reason it will not drop. Also because of the buggy nature of the gam it possible for the sword to fall through the floor, or even get flung through the wall. If the either happens the only solution is to reload the save you made before the fight and try again. Both have happened to me in the past, most frustrating.

Actually in a way Dawn/Duskfang has an advantage over any other weapon, as it repairs and recharges itself twice a day.*

However the true answer to the original question as with Oblivion itself, is any weapon you enchant yourself is going to be better than anything you find in the game.

*The easiest way to feed its hunger of course is to create a cheap summon skeleton spell that lasts just long enough to be slain with the sword. However I suspect a true servant of good would shun Dawn/Dusk Fang as an evil blade, but then again, what would a truly good character be doing working for Sheogorath in the first place? :D

To answer the question, I always liked Dawn/Duskfang.

On galraen's point: I've just started a new char - Argonian female - that I aim to play as a pure good character; something I've never done since the first time I played Oblivion. So I can't join Thieve's or Dark Brotherhood. And I like the TG quests. :( But I was aiming to play Shivering Isles! After all, even though Sheogorath is a bit... um... off his head, that doesn't mean my char has to be. Though come to think of it... all that drug stuff... hm...

The breaking point for my goody two shoes was being forced to either drive the adventurers mad or kill them in Xedilian in the 'Better Mousetrap' quest.

Yes, that is pretty nasty. First time, I opted to drive 'em mad, as at least they were still alive, and would be at home in Sheogorath's realm. Subsequently though, I have opted to kill, as it seemed kinder...
No, you are right. I can't have my goodie play Shivering Isles.

Mmm, I think you should stop that gatekeeper from killing innocent adventurers at least, and there are some nice people to help, and of course madness ore and amber is nice too. Not to mention the alchemical advantages of Black Tar :D .

Yes... tempt me! I love amber armour and weapons! Not that amber armour is actually better than 'home made' enchanted clothes - but it looks so good!

I wish i could've got "SI" working... Because I could join in this.
But I don't have any idea what "SI" has in it.

Poor me..... :(
