How come Ulraunt is still alive after you kill him?

Whilst soloing my mage, managed to get to Candlekeep OK and spent an age plus two and a half wands of monster summoning on killing Ulraunt and the Gatewarden just to see if I could. Was a bit disappointed that the only item of value to be found on them was a wand of sleep. What I want to know however is how come Ulraunt is still there after you get arrested outside? Have the programmers just not taken into account the fact that he is killable? If so, quite an oversight since whilst it took a long time, it was not that hard and must surely have been achieved by several players.

Indeed IIRC he doesn't even fight back. You're not suppose to kill him plotwise. The death of Ulraunt would throw Candlekeep into disarray. I guess you could say they did a poor job and not making him invincible.

You're right, and I suppose that in one sense the programmers did a good job, for whilst many may have done it once, only those totally addicted to watching paint dry will have done it twice.
