Well, I started a game with a solo sorcerer and since I didn't wanna wait till lvl 15-16-17 to try to get the blasted thing, I tried on level 12.
Worked like charm.
Used the following items:
5 Scrolls of Skull Trap(just in case that the beholder actually survives after my six other spell traps)
1 Scroll of Protection from Magic Energy(In case I accidentaly run into a non-exploded skull trap)
1 Scroll of Protection from Undead
1 Wand of Cloudkill(3 charges)
No fancy items save from Amulet of Power.

Wand of Cloudkill actually affects most of the Gang? That's surprising.

I recall reading somewhere (on this forum?) it goes around the magic resistance. It doesn't get fixed with the official patches, but does with a buldarfix or something with that.

Well, that explains why mages have regularly gotten around my use of it: I use the unofficial patches, too. And if it's cheese as it seems, I'll stick with the way I'm doing things. I'd rather kill the gang using strategy than an easy bit of limburger.

No, wand of Cloudkill has no effect on Undead - immune to poison damage. Seems logical enough - the undead do not breathe. But if affects Layene, the human mage holding the staff. On her, however, Skull trap and Sunfire do not work(Globe of invulnerability and Fireshield Red), and I needed my lvl 5 spells to cast Spell Immunity Divination while invisible so she couln't spot me, so Cloudkill came from the staff.
The wand of Cloudkill comes in handy in killing almost all of the enemy mages. Their protections does not work since it is Poison damage, 5 lvl, area effect spell. And it interrupts spellcasting. Lvl 6-Death fog spell is similar only dealing Acid damage, but it works like a Death spell also - slays summoned creatures right away. And stays for 1 turn, dealing damage.
And the undead were killed by the scroll of undead protection. They simply stood while I hit and killed them with a Martial staff +3.

How do you mean, they were killed by the undead protection scroll? That's a defensive tactic, a spell you apply to your own folks. As I recall in my games, the undead continued whailing away on my team--they just didn't make a dent.

What I think what's being said is that the scroll was used so the characters were immune to the level draining and all.

What I meant is that the green Scroll: Protection from Undead, makes you Immune to Undead - they cannot see you and you CAN harm them. And they will do nothing to protect themselves - even liches will simply stay and take damage. Even Kangaxx. And here comes a problem with him since he cannot initiate dialog after killing the lich-form and thus cannot transform to demi-lich. There the lich form must be killed, transformation started and after that a scroll can be used. An inconvenient bug there is.
And some other things I noticed recently:
Protection from Undead doesn't affect Tanova in the Graveyard District - she still can see(and attack) you with spells.
Ring of the Ram DOES work on Kangaxx and full force at that - it helped me kill the demilich dealing 18 damage(the demilich form has not so many hp points, just a good regeneration ability and great resistance to all forms of physical damage(as well as spell immunity)
If taken via scroll of Undead protection, the wand of Cloudkill posessed by the lich in the City Gates district, has 50(instead of 10) charges.

They shouldn't; they should completely ignore that character. And since the original poster was soloing, there were no party members to worry about- the lich and vampire would've just chilled out there, doing nothing.

Nonetheless, I'm pretty sure they did. It's been a while, but I was playing with a number of mods. Perhaps that modified their behavior, making it more realistic.
