Help!!! I have tried about 8 times to defeat these guys, but keep getting my ass kicked when they cast their time stop and invunerability (not sure what the exact spell is) spells - all tactics greatfully received!

what helped great with my was casting alot of skull traps on the place where the beholder and the thief appear.
they will be killed or just need 1 or 2 Magic Missles.
Don't go anywhere then, just get all your fighters to concetrate on the lich and xcast spells like pierce magic, breach and wilting Whip.
who do u have in your party?

to kill the vamp use someone with the Amulet of Power. Aerie or Jaheira.
and the rest of your party will kill the mage, but she usually get killed by her own Pit Fiend :D just wait or cast spells like breach, disspel magic and pierce magic and kill her with your fighters.

make sure you cast chaotic commands on the character taking on the vampire. He's got a nasty domination spell that always seems to work. Viconia with the mace of disruption +2, amulet of power, and chaotic commands is more than enough to handle the vampire plus her 65% MR can deflect the vampires charm/domination efforts.

Glad to hear somebody used my projet image+trap spells tech. I posted the easy way to kill the twisted rune gang about a year ago.

Projected image, guided with farsight will not trigger dialog, and 6 delayed action fireballs, or 4-6 skull traps will kill off the guys in the circ room, and traps will kill off the lich. try using the yoshimo dual class trick...

have yoshimo trap the area, then go to info screen, dual wield him to fighter or mage, then cancel. his traps will all come back!

Also, try the invisibility trick. if your main char is a sorc or mage, set up traps, or just simply cast about 3-5 inc. clouds into the room, without triggering dialog, then send in char wih improved inv. and spell immunity, divination. the cloud shoudl weaken and probably kill off the others, you run back to the small ante room, and keep the rest of the party up the small staircase area, and take on the lich in a mage battle. imp inv. and spell immunity div means the lich cannot targeet you with direct action damage spells, like domination, disintegrate and magic missile, so it might resort to area effect. If you are hybrid, whack away, otherwise use pieerce shidl and khelbens warding whip, to keep it from raising protections, and hit him with finger of death or other high level spells. liches are immune to most low level spells. not sure if its immune to magic missile, but you might try multiple peierce shield and try control undead. and have him turn against his friends...

Verrry important to stay back in the ante-room (or even on the staircase) and take them on one at a time. For the most part, it's simple hack & slash.

For the Lich; just kick his a$$ with weapons that do elemental damage or throw a level 7+ area damage spell at him to disrupt his spellcasting. If you can't handle the spells, have a Simulacrum from Vhailor's Helm use a Scroll of Protection from Magic on your tank.

For the Vampires; get someone immune to level drain up front (Limited Wish will make your entire party immune for a short time).

For the Beholder; use the Shield of Balduran. :D

For the Mage; send a summoned creature up to meet her; she'll waste her most powerful spells on it and will probably Gate a Pit Fiend she ends up fighting herself. When the sounds of battle disappear, run in to mop up.

All I did was sunray the lich, shield of balduran the beholder and beat the bejesus out of all the other guys.

Also, take my word, a little holy smite goes a LONG way.

Its a "litle" cheesey, but to unload a wand of cloudkill into the area befor the nastys apear works wonders :D
The lich isnt really a proplem and i never saw a sign of that mage, only his or her corpse.
The beholder went down after a time standing in the cloud by only 2 fireballs.
Mr Vampire had bad luck and ran into Viconia who was really pissed that day.
He died quick, and Viccy was still pissed.
Actually shes pissed since i made sweet love to her, must have done something wrong.
Damn Drow.

I killed the Lich by accident, actually. I had Yoshimo set normal (important) snares in the first room, in an effort to pick off a few of the other guys as they ran in. However, the Lich gates into that room, so they all nailed him. Poof, no more Lich. I then had some time before the rest of the people appeared, so I set a few special snares, which by this point had the ability to maze whoever it hit, so I could take a couple guys on at a time. Then, again with Yoshimo (or any thief, really. I'm a big fan of thieves in D&D) I hid, walked until I could just see one guy, picked him off with an arrow, and had him follow me back to where the rest of my group was waiting, all decked out and ready to go. The mage presented the only problem, because she was invisible etc, and had a pit fiend. I sent in two fire elementals a la Jaheira, and I think the pit fiend couldn't hit them. Either way, you can also bait out the pit fiend and take him out with those sunstones or whatever that you get in the Umar Hills. I took a pit fiend out with like 9 stones. It was ridiculous.

Wait just a second, pit fiends are firebased, and are immune to fire damage. Sunstone bullets are fire damage!!!

DOes this mean sunstone bullets are great against demons, like bolts of glory?!?!

I guess. I'm honestly not sure. Every time it would hit, it would say "Weapon Ineffective", and then on the next line it said "Pit Fiend: Damage Taken: etc, etc". I'm not sure if it was the fire damage, or if it's holy fire, or just the magical bonus, but it works. I guess it pays off to hoarde random stuff. ;)
