I am sorry, but you are misinforming the original poster, and calling me out for no reason.
Of course I read the stats for warpriest! That's how I came to my conclusion. And apparently either you didn't read them, or read them and misunderstood them.
I made a Paladin /Warpriest and confirmed my thoughts.
It is impossible to be a lvl 10 Paladin and lvl 10 Warpriest. At best, you can be a level 15 Paladin and level 5 Warpriest since you must be able to cast fourth level spells, and Paladins aren't given these until level 15. The Paladin-Warpriest spell progression is utterly useless, as you don't advance in higher level spells (you are stuck with one slot for a level four Paladin spell).
I find the Warpriest abilities to be underpowered at levels 16-20 since you can add much more powerful abilities/feats by taking another class, say Divine Champion, as this class is made for Paladins. The warpriest abilities (and not all of them, just 5 levels worth) just add a little to what the Paladin already has; a cleric or druid, however, would be gaining abilities they did not already possess, and thus would be more useful. It seems quite obvious to me that the Warpriest was a prestige class made for clerics and druids, hence the cost of slower spell progression, to the gain of some melee and redundant (for a cleric or druid) abilities.
I find the warpriest prestige class to be pretty weak, no matter how you use it. If I made a 10 lvl cleric or druid/10 lvl warpriest, the warpriest abilities are FAR weaker IMO than 9th level spells and domain abilities.
It is odd that the class requires spot since only one compatible class (druid) has this as a class skill, but stranger things have happened (blackguard and hide
)
So Darth Spawn,
Yes your Paladin can become a warpriest (at lvl 16)
No, I don't think this would make for a powerful character
Yes, you must train Spot even though it isn't a class skill
Yes, Clerics make for "good" warpriests "straight away" despite the Spot thing
