Spell Trouble

I'm having a bit of trouble accessing a few of my spells. When I bring up the list it shows them marked with a grey x. How do I free them up again?
this is most likely because your in an area that does'nt allow spells(and weapons) such as bowerstone.
just exit the area and you will be able to use your spells again.
