The secret power of HK

Hk is one of the most underated NPC's in the game. He is almost impossible to kill, hits with almost every shot, and makes one hell of a one man assault team, who can enter dangerous territory ahead of your party and just blow stuff up with grenades and rapid fire. He is capable of laying down awesome support fire, and he can get a HUGE computer skill to make accesing all those computers so much cheaper. What deters people from playing HK is his not being a Jedi and the expense needed to make him good. HK is like an R2 that can fight. He can buff his skills to rediculous levels via upgrades. He receives free feats form upgrades. All that is required to unlock HK is some repair skill and money.

To begin with HK is best with a rifle. HE can receive the specialization and focus feats from a superior targetting computer saving you feat purchases. Obviously, past Yavin, the barawin rifle is supperb but until any upgradable repeater carbine will do. HEavy plating 3 is not hard to find, but the yavin four upgrade makes him nigh untouchable once you factor in his DEX increases and defense increases due to meemory repairs. Computers, Demolitions, and Security are all easily buffable skills. Splicing will be cheap with HK.

When leveling up I suggest pumping his Dex and selecting the Toughness line as he has a low CON, rapid shot, and gear head.

What really sets HK apart from all the other characters are thw two extremely powerful droid only weapons. The advanced shield disruptor and take down a shield in a single shot and make work easier for your Jedi consulars and their single lightsaber attacks.

But...The grand....Most powerful....absolutely booken weapon....sickest in eth game!......!!!!!......is the Carbonite Projector Mark II. Lets get this strait. Even upon saving, the target is paralysed for 9 seconds? Thats death folks. Only a sentinel and stand up to HK. He wrecks everything. Now youy only have so many charges so you really want to use them well. Select the biggest baddest Jedi bosses. Freeze. This weapon works especially well in a group on combat oriented Jedi whose force powers are more readily resisted.

To note, you need 17 repair on your main character to fully repair HK-47 and have him at his full affectiveness. 17 is a lot for an otherwise useless skill. So it takes a bit of planning on getting there. Keep in mind that if your intelligence is 8, you will have -1 in repair skill. Every 2 points into intelligence adds 1 to your repair skill. You can find the memory implant off of Gadon's body that adds +1 to intelligence. Combine this with Master Valor's +5 to intelligence for a total of +6 intelligence. This gives you +3 to your repair skill. I believe there is a belt in the PC version that gives +3 to repair. And if you can spare it, you can spend feature points into Master Gear Head. Which will also give +3 to repair. Scoundrels require 2 skill points to increase repair by 1 point. Whereas scouts require 1 skill point to increase repair by 1. However, what you can do is save up your points as a scoundrel and wait until you become a jedi, like a consular, who only spends 1 skill point to increase repair by 1.

And I should say, that force stun, whirl, and fear can compete with the Carbonite Projector Mark II's paralyze feature. But, HK's droid abilities are nice and he has some cool dialog interuptions when you take him around the galaxy talking to different NPCs.

He is cool but 3 jedi with force storm? Who cares that it doesn't paralyse, it does so much more damage! Plus all the guns in this game are pretty pathietic and jedi and sith defect them most of the time anyway!

You must also repair HK-47 by a certain point in the game or the option is lost.

:
SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!: Before he realizes that you're Revan and gets his memory back.
:

If you don't repair him by then, then you will not recieve his dex boost or passive life regen. You will also miss out on his stories.

You have to have 17 Repair skill to get all the repairs done. There are 4 sets of repairs.

It can make the game and certain fights less repetitive if you use some of the skills, some of the time. This is good, since the game has replay value. You also gain the satisfaction of completing HK-47's side-quest.

HK-47 is a great character to party with. He's just as evil as Darth Revan. And repairing him gives him +5 dex and +2 passive life regeneration. Which makes him more effective in the game.

I agree totally, I always take repair just enough so, combined with a utility belt and force powers, it can be raised to reach 17 even if its just temporarily at that level. I love hearing about all his previous owners etc, plus getting the bonuses makes him an effective member of your party right from the start and I often use him when I play DS - as LS I tend to use the Jedi more but as DS I find it makes more sense to use HK and Canderous to back me up the majority of the time :)

The game is easy, even on the most difficult setting, so I prefer to role play a bit more - would the Jedi in your party really use force storm considering their views on the DS? Plus, guns add a bit of variation and they are not always deflected - get someone with high-ish wisdom and charisma to use stasis field or insanity (or the lower versions of these) and the jedi/sith cannot deflect a thing. Plus, if you save up your credits, you can buy some really good guns that do a lot of damage if you set your party members equipment, skills, feats and attributes up in the right way to make them most effective :)

As for HK, I've never had a problem with him hitting anything, just bump his dex up from the start, repair him to get the dex bonus, and upgrade a high quality rifle that adds an attack bonus and extra damage and he can take out most enemies with ease (even on the difficult setting).

Like all rpgs, the effectiveness of different characters comes down to how you develop that character and your prefered style of playing the game. I personally think HK is one of the best NPCs in the game and dislike using most Jedi except Bastila.

Yeah, I would agree that blasters can be affective. All you need is a way to stun your enemy, and he won't be able to deflect blaster bolts. And I do believe the Saul Sith Assassin Pistol, fully upgraded, has a 50% chance to stun. Between that and your character's force powers, the enemies should be stunned quite often.

to beat the game on hard, alwars put aggressive force powers into bastila juhani or jolee and give yourself heal and aggressive powers to support the others like insanity or kill. get death field as soon as you can and always bring canderous along. youll be unstoppable

lol i solo the hardest parts... well on that time though. And malak is always solo. :p And i am unstoppable, i just meant that its not so that i can just run into crowds of foes or kill all enemies with one hit... it has some challenge, but not too much. actually, sherruk is the hardest fight in the game so i died for 1 time... I have played it so that the first time partymember dies im on the star forge. :D

It depends. If you're darkside, most of your spells affect your enemy and Malak will resist a lot of your spells. If you're light side, many of your spells will affect you. Lightside has the advantage in that he can heal himself in the middle of a fight, darksiders have to try and break Malak's resist in order to heal themselves or deal damage to him.

Well Malak is hard couse he cheats :p He uses lightning without stopping. Sherruk is damn hard becouse you wont be having much force powers then.

Do you mean when Malak reveals that you are Revan aboard the Leviathan when you fight him the first time? No HK-47 upgrades after that?

Well, ranged weapons in general come in a poor second best in KotoR, and HK is all about that. Ranged weapons were given something much closer to parity with melee in KotoR2.

I don't have any problem with HK-47 or ranged characters in general. Carth has been my designated ranged guy becuase I have built him up since the beginning to be a pistol packin' madman. His combat skills have always been better than HK-47's.

My problem is that I played as a soldier, so my skill points have been few and far between, and I sure as heck wasn't going to waste them on repair, which I don't think I have used more than one time during the whole game. I barely had enough points to do things I really wanted to do! Or if I had more time to try and build up my repair skill and upgrade him, that would have been cool. But, like Darth Vader, it is too late for me.

I would have liked to have him fully powered up to see what he's capable of. Maybe if I play through the game as a scoundrel or something next time...
