Many many questions. Should I follow the main quest first to get Imoen back or take a few NPC's and finish off some side quests first? I love my Immy. It angers me that I was stripped of her right out of the gate. I say DARN these infernal plot lines and there ability to just take take take. Always taking and never giving. OH Immy I miss thee.

You frighten me O_O

SPOILER:

It will be some time before you can get Imoen back. It really depends on your playstyle, but it is generally recommendable to pick up some NPC's to fill your party. Keep in mind you will eventually have to drop one of them if you want Imoen back. I personally kept my party at 5 until I rescued her.

It just blew me away. YAY I start with Minsc and Immy. This game rocks. Wait no..Irenicus...dont do it. Burn in hell Irenicus I hate you. Now all I have is stupid Nalia or Arie. There should be a disclaimer on the box.

If this sucked any more right now it would be Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

But seriously I need help. I started with a fighter and im too far in to start over with a mage. Arie is a wimp and Nalia is a punk.

In the government district you can find Jan, an useful illusionist/thief a and if you do the quest for Renal Bloodskalp who is in the building in the NW of the dock's district (Yoshimo will point you there if he's in your party) you'll meet Edwin, another mage who can replace Imoen for some time.

But I guess for you it's best to get Imoen back ASAP, the sidequests which can be done in chapter 2 and 3 can also be done in chapter6. Just make sure that you have bought useful equipment (like the strength girdle, bracers AC3 and the quarterstaff+4 from Ribald) when you start chapter4.

tk5to1, please don't post back-to-back--edit what you've got to add content. And if you have no genuine content to add to a thread (outside of the SYM, Speak Your Mind, forum) please don't post. Thanks.

I was playing a F/M my first game, so I sucked up not having a full mage, and just held on to Yoshimo until I picked up Imoen. I switched the two of them when you're reunited with Imoen.

For reasons that will be revealed in due time, if you have a party of six, it's a good idea to bring Yoshimo along when you depart to collect Imoen.
When I played my first time around, I picked up Imoen a bit too late, making her lag behind the others considerably in terms of xp. It gets sorted out with the Throne of Bhaal expansion, but I remember finding it annoying at the time. On the other hand, you may find it equally annoying that many of the side quests in and around Athkatla aren't very challenging if you wait too long. If you ask my opinion, I would still try to play the game in its natural order, even at the expense of Imoen's xp.
