I've finally uploaded and re-encoded the Stage6 video so that others could view it. That video took over an hour to re-encode to Divx, but my encounters on level 4 of the final dungeon are definitely worth viewing for humor if nothing else.

I have almost the same content on a MySpace page I just created.

The reason for multiple copies of the vidoes is to market them to as many potential M&M fans as possible.

Great idea with the videos, but are you serious with your "recommended starter parties" ? The games are unplayable without a thief or ninja for opening chests and closed doors, using your parties would lead to frustration.

I'd add a dwarf ninja to the parties, maybe a robber for WoX because of the thief throne in CoX and the prince book in DSoX.

My personal opinion is that you underappreciate luck, it's extremely useful during the game and can decide if the boss monsters do enough damage through your shield spells to eradicate your characters or not.
While speed is also very important, I wouldn't bother giving high con to a half-orc barbarian on the other hand, when he gets near unconsciousness the mage has long died enforcing a reload or other painful measures, I also wouldn't give ultra high int or cha for secondary casters and replace at least one of the elves with a human for better resistances and less dying.

In Might and Magic 3 as well as Worlds of Xeen, any character can obtain the Thievery skill. In my opinion, you can wait for the chests since the starting quests and monsters give decent money or gem rewards. You get more powerful with the characters, and for the long haul more casters are beneficial for the end game. If you MUST have a thief, my recommendation would be the Ninja. They're the best fighters of the thief class characters, and if you combine them with certain races(Gnome and Elf get +10 Thievery IIRC) you get even more bonus to the thief skills.

Redundant Rogue-types

I never used a thief in any M&M, and I played all of them from MM3 to MM7 (many repeats of MM6) -- just never could really get into MM8, and MM9 was incomplete when released, and only patched by the gamer community.

In World of Xeen you cannot obtain thievery skill at all, even if you buy all talents in Shangri-La. (How did you manage to get through the game ?)

In MM3 you can buy the thieving talent in the halls of insanity, but it takes a long time to get there.
Unspoiled first time players (I guess the movies are directed towards them) won't feel good if they don't get their quest rewards because they cannot open the chests they find and will probably give up the game before they get their thieving ability.

I also differ about for the long haul more casters being beneficial for the end game.
Many spell points for casters are not neccessary, since there a lots of locations where you can refresh your spellpoints, you can cast your buffing spells there and get to the location you want to clear with spells like teleport and Lloyd's beacon.
During the game you'll find lots of items with casting ability, once you have found a refresh item you can use them at will to cast high and low level spells like dragon breath, beacon or shield without any costs.
In MM3 there are only 3 kinds of monsters which are immune to physical damage, ghosts, firwalkers and terminators (not sure about their names).
The first are painful but low level and don't have many HP, the second won't be able to hurt you anyway because of "protection from elements" and when you meet the third you'll have enough spellcasting items so that only the user level counts, thieves are even one level higher than mages.
Spells also cost gems which can be used for more useful things like refreshing the crystals in the spider cave which grant stat improvements.
When I tested my high level barbarian in the arena against the strongest monster in the game, a dragonking(?) he did about 5700 damage (the knight about 4300) to his 10,000 HP, spells aren't that effective.
In WoX this is similar, you don't get so many magic items, but you also have less magic-immune monsters.
In another forum I recently read from someone who just swept through the whole WoX game with 3 barbarians, 1 ninja and human archer+paladin in just a few hours while the ones having trouble are usually those playing a caster-heavy party without barbarian.

I apologize for my mistaken belief about getting all of the skills in Worlds of Xeen. Still, in MM3 you have a choice between Ninja or another caster character. I do realize that the video is oriented to veterans who have played the game more than once, so I'll label the video accordingly.

Thanks for posting these, DaveO. They bring back some great memories :) .

Any chance you might be posting any from M&M 1 and 2? Along with M&M 3, those are easily my favorite of all the Might and Magic games.

For MM1 and MM2, I'll investigate how friendly the games are to modern gamers. Too much of a 'culture shock' in the graphics department would be more of a turn-off in my opinion. I'll see if either has an intro or some other way of posting content. I've greatly appreciated all of the comments thus far!

Unfortunately, there's too steep of a change from MM2 to MM3 in terms of graphics, gameplay, and interface so I'd rather not torture modern gamers with any videos of M&M games before MM3.

I tried posting another Swords of Xeen video with audio, but for some reason Stage6 did not include the audio. I'll check around for another resource to post the video to.

Alright. I just figured for nostalgic purposes it would be fun to see a dungeon or two from each. It's been 20 years since I've played either, but I remember Doom and Wyvern Pass being pretty fun in the first game and the treasure rooms at the end of the dragon dungeon in the second game being overwhelmingly generous. Maybe I'll fire them up myself one of these days.

I'll see what I can do. I'm checking into different alternatives due to the changes between MM3 and MM2.

Swords of Xeen: Final dungeon with sound and music

I was able to record and encode the final dungeon for the fan-created Swords of Xeen with different audio settings. Please ignore any links at the start of the thread and refer to my Web page at: DaveO's Looting Lore and Sacred Underworld Single Player site to get direct links to the various video channels I have on separate sites. To get audio on the Stage6 video, you'll have to scroll the sound setting near the bottom right to at least the middle setting. Enjoy!

I'll definitely be able to record a MM1 video. I'll do the party creation so that others won't have to see me go thru that LONG process. Barbarians got nerfed in MM2 compared to MM3, so I'd advise on two Knights instead of a standard Knight/Barbarian fighter group. I created a Ninja for my party in MM2 due to lack of knowledge concerning chests, and I'll do the same in MM1.

P.S. - I just took a brief look at MM1, and the party creation is going to be the longest. You can't exchange statistics like in the other M&M games.

Dave, while you're at it, why don't you upload the Darkside of X.E.E.N. ending scene? It surely was one of the greatest endings in its time, not some classic hero-defeat-villain scene. I actually have the movie but lack the skills to extract&upload it.

I noticed that on YouTube, I've been beaten by somebody else who has the victory videos. Don't worry, I do plan on more videos. I've been sidetracked by another project for a while.

Thoughts on the M&M videos

I'm thinking that the best way to undertake my project is to make videos of going thru the dungeons like I did for a Stage6 video of the final Swords of Xeen spaceship dungeon. I'd like opinions and comments on this idea, as well as other suggestions to be able to make a 'sell' on the older M&M games for new players.

M+M II + us old folks...

Hey, Might and Magic II still holds up, especially for us old folks. We still remember the old classics. Actually allot of old classic games can be accessed at the icestorm9999 rpg directory. It's got a nice flashback of rpg's, if you haven't been there before, you can check it out at
icestorm9999 intro page
