Install Problem

I cannot perform a full install of IWD. I get close to the end of the install and I get an error. Can't remember the exact wording but it always happens at the same point in the install.

So I did a minimum install and now I ask: Is there a way to fool my computer into thinking I have a full install by copying the files over and then editing .ini files?

Bueller? Bueller? Anybody?

Thanks. Bradley

I got a simular problem in BG2, there is some info here: [url="http://www.gamebanshee.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=007957"]http://www.gamebanshee.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=007957[/url]

Perhaps the trick to fool the comp for BG also works for IWD, if you change (=read differently) some things like baldur.ini to whatever it is in this game.

Thanks, Rohbin. I'll give it a try and see if it works this weekend.

@Rob-hin - did it work for you? :)

@Bradley - another thing you can try is a full install with the DMA on your CD Rom drive turned off. It is slow but the file transfers are much more stable :)

Alternatively, you could try copying both your disks to your hard drive and running the installation from there...

Good luck and welcome to the GB forums. :)

YO bradley!!

The info on the link I gave you isn't totally correct.

This is what it needs to be:

1. Do a Minimum install.

2. Edit your "baldur.ini" file. Change the line "Install Type=1" to "Install Type=3". Also, you will need to edit the [Alias] section. Make the following changes where [BG2] is the location of your BG2 install

[Alias]
HD0:=[BG2]
CD1:=[BG2]\CD1\
CD2:=[BG2]\CD2\
CD3:=[BG2]\CD3\
CD4:=[BG2]\CD4\

(there were missing a couple of :'s)
(remove the [ ] from the name)

3. Copy the following directories (and all their contents) from the BG2 CDs to your BG2 install folder, where [cddrive] is the letter of your CD-ROM drive and [BG2] is the location of your BG2 install

CD2
[cddrive]\CD2 ===> [BG2]\CD2

CD3
[cddrive]\CD3 ===> [BG2]\CD3

CD4
[cddrive]\CD4 ===> [BG2]\CD4

You now have a Full install.

Rob-hin,
Thanks for reposting the info to this forum. I was able to track down the post in the BGII SOA forum. So it was really needed, but I do appreciate it. I haven't had time to try all methods, but I will in a few days. Thanks guys and I'll keep you posted.
