I`m trying to reinstall BG. When I put the dvd in, the option to install is missing.
I uninstalled everything to do with black isle, but, for some reason, it thinks the program is still installed.
Untill I click play and then nothing happens.

You need to clean your registry. The simplest and safest way to do this is to have a program do it for you. I can recommend RegSupreme Pro, which is free to try for 30 days, though it is well worth the $16.95 you pay to register.

I appreciate the advice but I don`t see why I should need a registry cleaner because I uninstalled a program.

First take a look at
this
Second, you might have to do this, because the uninstall failed to remove certain "notes". This leads to the conclusion of the program, that BG2 is still installed. If you decide it is necesary to do this, MAKE SURE YOU DO IT RIGHT. Doing it incorrect could have serious consequences.

That is exactly the point. You uninstalled it, but Windows doesn't know yet.

That is why you need to clean your registry before you can re-install.
Manual deletion works as well, but I deliberately did not suggest this because it should be done with extreme care. If you want to do it, go ahead, but I really recommend the program.

I took your advice and downloaded the software you recommended and it seems to have done the trick.
I had a nightmare one way and another. I was just about to meet Bohdi with my solo cleric ranger before going on to the asylum when I found that Lassal was unkillable. He was also in the wrong place.
I had installed Unfinished Business for the first time and I`m inclined to blame that.
I uninstalled UB but that made no difference. I then tried to uninstall BG2 and was told it couldn`t be uninstalled so I did it the brute force way and the rest you know.
It seems to be working now though, so thanks for the advice.
