Geralt

This game looks very dark and beautiful. The Witcher himself is rather intriguing: non-human mutant, devoid of emotion on the surface but with "a flicker of sentiment piercing his supposedly non-existent heart"... So-o-o romantic.
However, don't you think he looks a whole lot like Drizzt?
"The blades you carry are your lifelines." I hope they are not going to introduce scimitars...

Now this kind of main character, I like.

At least he (Geralt) is a welcome change to those mutes that populate almost every RPG out there.

Imagine, a person who can't even talk for peanuts, let alone have any sense of perception, seem to be able to influence those around him and the game world.
But, I highly doubt many RPG developers would want to follow this route. Mutes will still be the norm no matter what. Talk about how customisable the main character is. Say that its role-playing. You know what? I think it's more like the developers are too lazy to develop the main character. Just my point of view, though.
P.S. Sorry about the slight rant here.

Geralt does not exactly look like the life of the party, if you know what I mean. Don't expect much eloquence.
I agree that voice is important. The "wrong" voice type can spoil everything. Take LotR Aragorn played by Viggo Mortensen, for example. While he was whispering Elvish he was passable. The moment he started bleating his "rousing" speech in front of his warriors, he became pathetic.

I know, but at least characters like him are a welcome change to the countless number of mutes that populate almost every game out there.

Besides, he does look like an interesting sort of character and I hope he'll turn out fine.

Can't agree more. So far, the voice acting sounds pretty decent in the Witcher. I probably think the voice actors are not the famous ones, in my opinion. Your example reminded me of another good example of a bad videogame voice actor who is none other than David Duchovny. He's good in the X-Files but when it comes to videogame voice acting, he suck. He delivered his lines in a monotone in games like XIII and Area 51. So boring that I felt like sleeping whenever I hear him talk.

I could not find any voices. Where should I look?

Try looking at this section of Gametrailers. Look for the story trailer while there. That's where I remember hearing NPCs and Geralt himself speak. Tried going to the official site but it seems like those trailers just vanished into thin air.

Well, I do recall him talking before but that was one of the choices the developer demonstrated in a particular trailer (it was the part where you have to decide on what to do with that prisoner).

He did talk, and not only did the voice match the character well enough, it was the same voice actor that did Daeguhn or whatever his name was from the Neverwinter Nights 2 campaign, since both games use the same sort of engine

How did you know that the voice actor for Geralt is the same voice actor for this Daeguhn guy in Neverwinter Nights 2?

As far as I know, I have yet to come across a list of voice actors for the Witcher.

I'm good at identifying voices, make the comparison yourself if you have NWN2, I'll admit it's difficult to hear Geralt's voice over the narrator guy but I am 100% sure they're the same voice actor
At about 1:40 into the trailer Geralt will be talking while the narrator takes a breath, Geralt says "Now get lost! And pray to the gods if you dared befool me." He sounds EXACTLY like Daeghun from NWN2
The Voice Actor's name is James Murtaugh (of Daeghun that is, I haven't confirmed him as doing Geralt as well)

1,
2,
3 - these are the samples of English dubbed Geralt's voice. As far as I know, that voice in the trailer was recorded only for presentation.

Heh, after I've played for a while, I am convinced Geralt is not Drizzt. (Maybe just a bit -- white hair and spectacular swordsmanship).
I like Geralt. He reminds me of The Mariner, a mutant from Waterworld (Kevin Costner), and has a libidinous proclivity of another lethal womanizer:
Geralt: I am a witcher. Geralt the witcher.
Tavern wench: What'll you have?
Geralt: First, Toussaint red, then you. Shaked, not stirred.
He is also a very intelligent bastard. I really enjoy his philosophical ramblings and deep conversations involving politics and "genetic research". I think genetic research in medieval setting is especially hilarious.

There is some "James Bond'esk" (the old kind, not the sissy new ones

) over him indeed.

I'm very much an anti hero fan. I'm sick of the moralistic RPG characters who are as pure as the driven snow. I mean as fantasy goes Geralt is a more realistic character. Most fantasy worlds are violent and not particularly good times to live in so all these angelic characters just don't seem realistic to me.
If you consider, as an example, being the average militiaman or Knight in the Middle Ages being a nice guy was never likely to have been on your CV. Cold blooded murderer, rapist and religious fanatic yes ... nice guy ... nooooo

I also noticed some allusions to
LA Confidential and
Unforgiven movies.
I wonder if anybody spotted more.

Geralt kind of reminds me of Agent 47 (voiced by David Bateson) of the Hitman series.

Yea you have a good point there
Doesn't employ quite as many sniper rifles though

Agreed. Can only carry one rifle-type weapon. Any more and he'll just ditch the previous gun for the other one.

Makes sense as the game strives for realism. As for Geralt, it makes sense to have 2 different swords and one dagger but why a 3rd weapon slot?

I wonder if it's troublesome to run around with 2 swords at your back and one on your left.
